About this deal

Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The events of the entire film are entirely his fault, as he was the one who stole the heart of Te Fiti in the first place. He's also responsible for transforming Te Fiti into the violent lava demon Te Kā. Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's an incredibly selfish and arrogant narcissist, and doesn't really think much of Moana at first. Underneath all that though, he really does have some compassion. Silent Antagonist: They never speak throughout their entire assault on Moana and Maui, conveying their malicious intent through their drawn-on angry faces, pounding drums, blowing horns, and occasional screeches.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/how-baby-moana-went-from-being-a-test-subject-to-a_us_58f4d07ae4b0156697225100 Walking Spoiler: Her true identity as Te Fiti without her heart is this, especially for the climax of the movie.Moana is the daughter of Chief Tui, living on the oceanic island of Motunui as the appointed heir to the chiefdom. Since childhood, Moana has been deeply captivated by the rich legends and lore that have spread across the South Pacific islands over the centuries, most of which revolve around legendary gods and goddesses, such as the demigodMaui. Compelling Moana further into these legends is her always-supportive grandmother, Tala, who firmly believes Moana is destined to someday navigate and explore the seas, as her ancestors did before her. Tui, however, feels the world beyond the reef is far too dangerous for any exploration, and forbids his people (including Moana) from venturing off.

Ocean connection: Though Moana does not technically possess the skill to bend water to her will, she does share a unique and exclusive connection with the ocean itself. Sometimes the ocean helps her when she's in need. Tui notices his daughter's love for the sea, and over the years, he and the people of Motunui try to convince Moana that their island home is a paradise and that her destiny is to follow in her father's footsteps by becoming chief. Though she loves her people, Moana continues to feel drawn to the sea, something Tala encourages. One day, Tui takes Moana to a sacred place on the island: a high mountain, where chiefs from every generation place a stone to signify the start of their leadership. This inspires Moana to finally accept her role as soon-to-be chief of the village. She thusly spends her time learning under her parents on how to assist her people across the island. One day, the islands' supply of food begins to die out. Moana believes that traveling beyond the reef to find food elsewhere is the best solution, but Tui strongly forbids it. She nevertheless tries against his wishes and nearly drowns before she can even make it past the barriers. Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: She's the teenage female protagonist who, while courageous and can put up a fight (and hates being called a princess), is also compassionate and caring. She shows some skin between her top and her skirt, but the skirt is high-waisted enough to cover her navel. Experienced Protagonist: In contrast to Moana, Maui is familiar with the ocean and the beings they encounter, due to being a legend in his own time a thousand years ago.Acrophobic Bird: Downplayed. While changed into a giant hawk, Maui is shown being capable of soaring high above the ocean, but when he tries to get past Te Kā, he never flies higher than her head nor simply flies around her. Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: While Sina isn't waifish, she's small when compared to the large Tui, though not to the same extreme as Moana and Maui. Motive Misidentification: Tala's stories assume that Te Kā is just another "demon of the deep" who desires the heart as Maui did. It's revealed that she's actually Te Fiti in a corrupted form and simply wants it returned to her.
