Marca has a troubled past, and the things she's had to do to get a position on the Athens frequently leave her vulnerable to those out to get her. The most prominent of these is central protagonist and point-of-view character, Marca Nbaro, an orphan from a formerly wealthy family who cons her way aboard the Athens.

There is a fairly large collection of supporting characters in this book, especially as Nbaro makes friends and collections throughout the entire greatship and beyond.

While the story comes to a sort-of satisfying stopping point, it is abundantly clear that it isn’t finished. Following the random points of interest, the next Main Quest, No Sudden Moves, will have you collect Artifact Phi. Unfortunately for me, Artifact Space opens a duology, and the plot points that most caught my eye are backloaded into the second book. I’m also fairly convinced that there is more to this than we’ve been told so far – a guiding hand, so far unseen, that is assisting her progress.So we’ll have Deep Black in August 2024, a book of short stories set in the Arcana Imperii universe (most of which will be directly related to the events in Aritfact Space) in December 2023, and then two more novels thereafter. Nevertheless, she has managed to sneak on board the Athens with a false identity as a lowly ‘middie’. There is no official GameFAQs app, and we do not support nor have any contact with the makers of these unofficial apps. While a few interesting supporting characters don’t survive to the end of the novel, the remaining swath of fun characters should help to make the next entry in this series very special. If you enjoy watching a smart heroine learning the ropes on her first deployment, Artifact Space will be a treat.
