If applying Wood Stain + Protect to a garden building that will be subjected to high levels of exposure to weather, it is recommended that you apply Protek Clear Tough Coat as a top coat. When I applied the Sandolin worktop oil I’ve always used without issue, the stain marked the sponge and cloth I was using to apply it with. In general, I have found that stains that have “oak” in their name usually look great on oak, go figure! This process will help even out the surface, creating a lovely smooth finish for the stain to absorb into.

If you are unsure of what colour you want, start with a light stain and then add more stain until you reach the desired colour. If the wood has been treated with an oil or wax, wipe the surface down with thinners or mineral spirit to remove this. It has a nice workable consistency that is not too runny and is easy to clean off brushes with warm soapy water.
