The Einhyr Hearthguard are nothing short of the Leagues’ finest troops, protected by bulky exo-armour and carrying an array of powerful weapons. Even heavily armoured warriors unfazed by small arms fire are thankful for such cover when foes bring their biggest guns to bear. To do so, roll 2D6: if the result is greater than or equal to the best Leadership characteristic in that unit, the test is passed; otherwise, the test is failed and, until the start of your next Command phase, that unit is Battle-shocked.

Until the end of the phase, each time a model in that unit makes an attack against a target that has 1 or more Judgement tokens, you can re-roll the hit roll. Whether forming bodyguards around their Oathband's heroes or striking deep into the heart of enemy territory, they are all but unstoppable on the attack and nigh-immovable in defence. Use this Stratagem in your Shooting phase, before making a hit roll for an attack made by a VOTANN model from your army. Rules that refer to the value of an ‘unmodified’ dice roll are referring to the dice result after any re-rolls, but before any modifiers are applied. Each is equipped with a Volkanite Disintegrator or EtaCarn Plasma Gun, a shoulder-mounted grenade launcher, and a Concussion Gauntlet or Plasma Blade Gauntlet for melee combat, although the squad's Hesyr may prefer a Concussion Hammer in melee.EFFECT: Your LEAGUES OF VOTANN unit can shoot as if it were your Shooting phase, but it must target the enemy unit that just attacked it, and can only do so if that enemy unit is an eligible target. If two units combine to form a single larger unit and either of those units had Judgement tokens, make a note of how many the unit with the most has, just before they combine – the new unit has a number of Judgement tokens equal to this. The name "Einhyr" is a fictional cognate to the einherjar of Norse mythology, which means literally "army of one" or "those who fight alone" in Old Norse. Instead, keep allocating damage to another model in the target unit until either all the damage has been allocated or the target unit is destroyed. Each time a unit makes a Charge move, until the end of the turn, that unit has the Fights First ability.

WHEN: Your opponent’s Movement or Charge phase, just after an enemy unit is set up or when an enemy unit starts or ends a Normal, Advance, Fall Back or Charge move. Use this Stratagem in any phase, when a VOTANN SHIELD CREST unit from your army is selected as the target of a ranged attack. Whether forming a bodyguard for their Oathband's commanding heroes, striking deep into the heart of enemy territory, or serving as a potent voidship boarding party, the Einhyr are unstoppable on the attack and immovable in defence. Similarly, if, after all the cumulative modifiers to a wound roll have been calculated, the total modifier would be +2 or better, it is changed to be +1.To make an armour saving throw, roll one D6, then modify the result by the Armour Penetration (AP) characteristic of the attack.

Enemy units that are set up on the battlefield as Reinforcements cannot be set up within 12" of this model’s unit. If a Battle-shocked unit is selected to Fall Back, take a Desperate Escape test for every model in that unit. Selected from the most accomplished Hearthkyn and Theyns in a Hold, the Einhyr Hearthguard have many roles – from bodyguards to first-striking. If the result of the hit roll is equal to or greater than the attacking model’s Ballistic Skill (BS) characteristic (if the attack is being made with a ranged weapon) or its Weapon Skill (WS) characteristic (if the attack is being made with a melee weapon), then that attack scores one hit against the target unit.
