About this deal

the characters are set up, we learn about the murder of a promiscuous governor and his accused ex-wife, Kyra Burke, now on trial, as well as a mob boss and other shady, unscrupulous people. This book tootled along quite nicely with a high profile political murder, mob witnesses, plenty of intrigue and a cast of characters that gave plenty of opportunity for viewing the investigation from different perspectives. Comey injects the personal into his thriller and keeps us coming back for more – as much to follow what his characters are up to as to find the solution to the mystery. Comey left DOJ in 2005 to serve as General Counsel and Senior Vice President at defense contractor Lockheed Martin.

The story had lots of exposition of explaining, which I felt was unnecessary and weighed down the action. However, the definition of a thriller is a play, film or novel with an exciting plot involving crime or espionage. These agents blend into the background to such an extent that it’s possible that half of the people in a restaurant are there to eavesdrop on the conversation of a suspect, and all of the vehicles on the street are there to follow him when he leaves. It's a well-written, well-crafted story, but more than that, perhaps, it provides insights into the legal system, from both inside and outside the courtroom, that could come only from someone who's spent the lion's share of a professional lifetime working within it.Nora works to find the real killer of the disgraced former governor, apparently a mob hit, even as the evidence points to the wife. I’d be interested to know how much os this book was plotted and written by Mr Comey himself and how much help he had but overall I enjoyed it.

The main character was a female ADA prosecutor and given the mob's involvement with the case, the FBI is brought in for the federal charges. It’s enough to blow the case wide open, and to send Nora into a high-stakes investigation of conspiracy, corruption, and danger. Green Eyes (only 2% of the real world, yet it seems like 90% of all fictional females): YES Dominic “The Nose” D’Amico has penetrating green eyes. This is the problem with celebrity authors - and Comey just about falls into that - in that they take short cuts to the top.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan separately pursue a lead indicating that the murder was (for some unexplained reason) a mob hit.
