About this deal

He arrived in New York late August 2010 and was captivated by the city’s lifestyle and people, “ I’d never seen anything like it.

After the image of a Brooklyn student named Vidal captured widespread attention on the Humans of New York blog, he and the photographer, Brandon Stanton, were invited to the White House. A pair of kids, two hundred pages apart, wear identical orange ties and blue sweaters, testimony to the growing power, even sartorial, of Eva Moskowitz, the C. Another example of the book’s use of visual repetition to emphasizes themes is shown in the spread below. The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached or otherwise used, except with the prior written permission of Condé Nast. Surprising and moving, printed in a beautiful full-color, hardbound edition, Humans of New York is a celebration of individuality and a tribute to the spirit of the city.

Instead of focusing on shooting people, he gained their stories and published them with his photographs.

Stanton’s project began as a blog, and HONY’s photos can be viewed on Tumblr, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and in print. In association with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Stanton went to Europe in 2015 to capture migrants and refugees seeking asylum in Europe from their homelands, most of which are war zones. Humans of New York began when photographer Brandon Stanton set out on an ambitious project: to single-handedly create a photographic census of New York City. It’s fascinating how a simple photograph blog turned into a storytelling page that captivates the hearts of millions of people. In 2014, Stanton set up an Indiegogo campaign to send a boy he had photographed and his family on vacation to a ranch in Colorado after learning that the boy's dream was to own a horse.

In an article written by Brandon Stanton in the Huffington Post, Stanton talks about what his life was like right after getting fired, “I decided to forget about money and have a go at something I truly enjoyed… So I told my mom that I was going to be a photographer and set out on a tour of American cities. The color red is associated with desire, strength, leadership, courage, vibrancy, radiance and determination and symbolizes action, confidence, power and courage. As of December 2016 [update], Humans of New York had more than 18 million likes on its Facebook page. Humans of New York had long existed as a blog with tens of thousands of loyal followers by the time I discovered this book.In Humans of New York, the different structural photo layout in each page strikes curiosity about the way he published his images. Thus occupying the vague space between archetype and anecdote, between the particular and the more broadly illustrative, Riis’s photos realized photography’s unique and enduring possibility—to serve artistic and documentary ends at once. Someone with wild eyes for an entire face, bemaned by equally crazed polar-white hair: “You’re going to misconstrue what I say. The result of these efforts was Humans of New York, a vibrant blog in which he featured his photos alongside quotes and anecdotes.
