About this deal

I am so happy that there seems to be more aroace characters being created, and the sexuality is beginning to be understood! Yuriko has to deal with a lot of ‘you could land a man if you tried harder’ or ‘you haven’t met the right person yet’ that simply ignores her preferences in favour of trying to force her into a specific box. I Want to be a Wall Volume 1 is hands down one of the most beautiful takes on a relationship I have ever read. The manga follows the lavender marriage of Gakurouta and Yuriko Hanazono, a gay man and an aromantic asexual woman, respectively. A big influence on lolita fashion is kawaii and Japanese “girl culture” which is for anyone of all genders and ages.

Featuring a vibrant rainbow design, and our super-sized Q logo, you won't find a more stylish way to make a statement. I started off rounding it up to 4 stars on GR, then rounding it down to 3 stars, and finally settling on 4 stars again. Kagiura is trying to come to terms with his feelings for Hirano in the second volume of Shou Harusono’s spin-off to fan-favourite Sasaki and Miyano. I felt like there was more depth and sensitivity to the way Yuriko was written than the way Gakurouta was written, and I wasn't entirely comfortable with the way Yuriko hovered around Sousuke and Gakurouta like she was witness to some kind of lovely BL tragedy. Whenever Circus does a big operation to catch some bad guys, they put on a show for the townspeople to apologize. It reached a point where people were trying to figure out why I wasn’t dating, coming to conclusions like “you’d be cuter if you lost weight” or “maybe she’s gay. Trauma is a vicious thing, and yet I Want to Be a Wall is a reminder that trauma has an opposite: healing. At first, Yuriko ships Gakurouta with Sousuke once she notices how shy the former is around the latter.

And now, there’s me: me, who has been single for three months, who is comfortable in their skin, who’s marked their saddle-brown skin with still fresh tattoos, with shorter hair, and maybe, with my first dye job at the end of the year. It's a story that effectively combines the slice-of-life, fantasy, and underdog genres in a digestible package. I suppose that’s why I chose to connect my name change to this manga instead of say, X-Gender, a manga that might be more apt to a coming-out announcement centered around gender and identity. What I love about this is that this scene appears in the first chapter and then again almost 100 pages later. Is the support they offer, the walls they chose versus the walls forced on them, any less important? They clearly liked and wanted to support each other, but they also barely knew anything about each other - it read like an arranged marriage that had somehow worked out. However, one of the most interesting conversations takes place later on between Gakurouta and Momo over lunch (once they’ve been formally introduced and various misunderstandings on Gakurouta’s part have been dispelled).
