These are simple poppet valves, operating by direct float action and sealing against the upper valve seat.

Manual radiator bleed valves require the use of a radiator bleeding key, and you will need to go around each radiator individually and bleed them wherever it’s needed. If air collects in the valve body, the waterline lowers, as does the float, and the valve opens to release it. A sealed system is completely sealed to atmosphere, expansion is taken up using an expansion vessel and is filled by a temporary link between the cold main and the heating system. These devices are not flawless and, in a case where any water spill at all would be a disaster, you may want to attach a drain tube to them. I was just intrigued (sad I know) how this type works and is there anything to go wrong inside them.These operate by the varying viscosity of liquids and gases and are designed for situations, such as fire truck hoses, where there is a large flow and a large quantity of air to be vented rapidly. I was looking at the Taco 417-3 but I can't determine if it only lets out air during filling of the system or also during normal operation.
