About this deal

In my mind, this was the first sign that things might have changed at Meze. Digging a little deeper before saying yes, I found the second leaving myself even more intrigued. Here's why. Headphones– Hifiman Sundara, Sony WM1000XM3, Meze 99 Neo, Meze Empyrean, Audeze LCD3, MrSpeakers AEON2, Sendy Aiva The grain is excellent but you can ignore the rather weird dark knot feature at the center of the cup in the main picture, this is a class B unit so you won’t get that on retail units, they simply will not pass the QC. Each cup is crafted initially on a CNC machine and then finished and polished hand with Meze claiming each set takes approximately 45 hours to complete.

When you look at everything dismantled in the picture below it is a surprisingly simple but effective build. The Neo 99 is a great headphone, and value-wise, I think it is definitely worth considering if you were looking at the Classics but didn't quite have the funds. They managed to bring the price down and did so without sacrificing what makes Meze headphones great. Hats off once again, and a definite recommendation from us to buy! LINKS: The looks of Meze 99 Classics may be the first reason why this model became a real “classic” in Meze’s lineup, as the model name suggests. The craftmanship in this model deserves well gratitude. Wood always catches our attraction at first sight as it’s a never-ending tool for humankind. Always feels more alive and premium compared to plastic which surrounded us for the last couple of decades. 99 Classics also feels very premium when you first hold it in your hands. And lighter in weight than you would expect, which is very important when it comes to headphones as comfort is one of the main keys in real-life use.Meze is relatively new Romanian company and 99 Classics is their much talked about model in several forums. They are carefully designed with choice of premium materials like wood and metal. Having spent about a week with them here is my opinion about them: Sound-wise, considering the price, it’s pretty much impossible to criticize the 99 Classic. They offer great value and punch well above their weight. Right from the start, they offer a very classy experience. You have the product image on the front side, and honestly, who can't say this isn't a beautiful headphone? They also make big mention of the awards they have won since the release of the Classics in the way of the respective outlet’s badges. The only problem I see for some people is that the ear pads are not the deepest, so if you have large ears it could result in some slight problems with fitting your entire ear inside, or you can end up touching the driver cover. Not happening to me, but I have rather small ears and I’ve heard that some users had this kind of problem. It wasn’t a deal breaker in any of this cases, but it’s surely worth mentioning. We listened to more songs than those named in this playlist, but those are excellent for identifying a sonic signature. I recommend trying most of the songs from this playlist, especially if you’re searching for new music! The playlists are different for Spotify, Tidal and Youtube, and based on the songs I enjoy and are available on each!

When you open the box up, you will be greeted not by the headphones but by the attractive and valuable hard-shell carry case; the headphones are lurking inside. I like the case; it’s good quality and molded to precisely fit the 99 Neo rather than just being an off-the-shelf offering.

What We Like:

The seal is not bad for a closed headphone actually though the memory foam is slightly stiffer than some other varieties I have encountered before but it does form well enough around the ear so you won’t find too many gaps. Beautiful wood. Unfortunately highly microphonic headband arch (rings when touched). The headband really likes to pull hair out. Small ear pads.

There is, however, slight evidence of the wood lacquer being worn on the bottom edge of the ear cups by the end of our time testing them – something you should perhaps expect to happen over time if they’re constantly placed on a desk. Build quality is top notch. The headphones feel solid and the simple, all-mechanic build (no glue is used) make them appear sturdy and resistant. Meze nailed it when it comes to materials and there’s no part of the 99 Classics that feel cheap, flimsy or inadequate. Compared to the class leaders at this level, they aren’t as crystal clear or technically precise as the leaner-sounding Austrian Audio Hi-X55, which are more analytical in the way they surface detail and express themselves dynamically. Verdict The Silver Cable also comes with a balanced plug, and with an adapter from the 2.5mm balanced connection, to a 3.5mm single ended connection. This means that you will be able to explore the full potential of your player with the silver cable, regardless whether you have a single ended amplifier, or a balanced one. Two cables are included – a short one with microphone/remote unit, and a longer one. Both have got a 3.5 mm plug. Last but not least, a 3.5 mm to 6.3 mm adapter, airplane adapter and zipped bag (for the spare cable) are included as well.If you have a dime to spare, please donate, and help us! It would make the day brighter for me and my wife-
