About this deal

You’d need to have the humbuggiest of hearts not to be charmed, even just a little bit, by this family Christmas movie – lavishly adapted, no expense spared, from a kids’ novel by Matt Haig. It begins in modern-day London, with Maggie Smith as the Mary Poppins-ish great-aunt to a trio of siblings. Their mum has recently died, so no one is feeling festive when Aunt Ruth begins telling them a bedtime story on Christmas Eve.

In A Boy Called Christmas, Nikolas and Joel (his father, the Wood Cutter) are poor. Nikolas has no brothers or sisters and Miika (a mouse) is his only friend. Throughout his life, he has only received two christmas presents: a sleigh and a turnip doll. The trio reaches Elfhelm but finds nothing there except for Joel's knife. Nikolas loses hope and collapses. He is found by Little Noosh and Father Topo. Father Topo gives Nikolas a "hope spell" that allows him to recover. Father Topo informs him that he is in Elfhelm, but it is only visible to the people who believe in the place. The Girl Who Saved Christmas: Amelia Wishart was the first child ever to receive a Christmas present. It was her Christmas spirit that gave Santa the extra boost of magic he needed to make his first trip around the world. But now Amelia is in trouble and losing her Christmas spirit. Santa must find Amelia and make her believe again—Christmas depends on it!

This book made me feel all the emotions and even made me cry in the end because I was so sad that this beautiful christmassy story was over now. (Although there are two sequels to it.) Irresistibly readable. Destined to become a Christmas and anytime-before-or-after-Christmas classic!" – Chris Grabenstein, New York Times bestselling author of Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library

I bought this to read last year or two years ago maybe…before there was a Netflix adaptation. I still haven’t watched, but now that I’ve finished reading, I think I will. Nikolas is able to see the place after believing in the elves and tries to stay in the town. He learns that a group of humans, including Joel, has kidnapped a small elf called Little Kip. Nikolas is sentenced to be eaten by a troll in the Dark Tower. Nikolas manages to escape with the help of a young fairy called the Truth Pixie. He then decides to try to find Joel's party and clarify the misunderstanding. Would you change your name (as a character does in this story) if you found out it meant something gross in another language? This collection includes three hilarious classics in the making from New York Times bestselling author Matt Haig. a b "Netflix Jumps Into Holiday Season With Teaser for 'A Boy Called Christmas' ". The Hollywood Reporter. 6 October 2021 . Retrieved 27 December 2021.

The film was released on 26 November 2021 in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany and China, by StudioCanal, [2] while Netflix released the film elsewhere, [3] on 24 November 2021. [4] The film was released on DVD. Lots of bathroom humor, mostly involving Blitzen's weaponized pee (called "wee" here because it's British) skills. A Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig is the perfect bedtime story to read to your children in the month of December on the run-up to Christmas. It is beautifully illustrated by Chris Mould.

Michiel Huisman as Joel embracing Nikolas in 'A Boy Called Christmas'. (Image credit: Sky) Henry Lawfull on playing Nikolas in 'A Boy Called Christmas'Mother Vodol then tells him about how she lost faith in the humans when news spread in the place that the men (including Joel) took Little Kip. Nikolas tells her that his mother always remembered how joyful it was in Elfhelm.

One day, the King calls his subjects and promises a big reward if someone is able to find an object that would bring hope to the kingdom. Joel joins a group of hunters to try to find Elfhelm. Joel leaves Nikolas under the care of Aunt Carlotta, a selfish woman who makes Nikolas' life miserable. A boy born on Christmas Day, a poor family, but with a love for giving, rather than receiving. Of course he would find magic and become Father Christmas! Actor and writer Stephen Merchant lends his voice to Miika, the fretful CGI mouse who, with a bit of magic, becomes Nikolas’s over-chatty companion. In this sequel to Legacy and the Queen (2019), Legacy Petrin and her friends Javi and Pippa have returned to Legacy’s home province and the orphanage run by her father. With her friends’ help, she is in training to defend her championship when they discover that another player, operating under the protection of High Consul Silla, is presenting herself as Legacy. She is so convincing that the real Legacy is accused of being an imitation. False Legacy has become a hero to the masses, further strengthening Silla’s hold, and it becomes imperative to uncover and defeat her. If Legacy is to win again, she must play her imposter while disguised as someone else. Winning at tennis is not just about money and fame, but resisting Silla’s plans to send more young people into brutal mines with little hope of better lives. Legacy will have to overcome her fears and find the magic that allowed her to claim victory in the past. This story, with its elements of sports, fantasy, and social consciousness that highlight tensions between the powerful and those they prey upon, successfully continues the series conceived by late basketball superstar Bryant. As before, the tennis matches are depicted with pace and spirit. Legacy and Javi have brown skin; most other characters default to White. The only criticism I have about A Boy Called Christmas is that the release date was too close to Christmas. Haig can’t be blamed for this, but the Publisher can. Still, now that A Boy Called Christmas has been released, it can be enjoyed by the many for years and years to come. A Boy Called Christmas is a 2021 British Christmas fantasy film directed by Gil Kenan from a screenplay by Ol Parker and Kenan, based on the 2015 book of the same name by Matt Haig. I think this could be a perfect class read for the end of a school day through December, the chapters are short and it’s within the understanding and humour levels of an infant or junior class, and it’s also a very enjoyable read for an adult looking for a light Christmas read that brings a few twists to the story, as well as some delicious Mould illustrations, he makes his characters both vulnerable and Burton-esque. You know what is likely to appear in the story, and yes – you will meet reindeer and elves, but Haig’s tale takes a few macabre and twisted turns, taking Nikolas to prison, to death’s door, to some incredibly sad scenes that certainly take this above the average children’s Christmas tale.
