About this deal

The hot pin carries the signal, the cold pin also carries the signal but inverted (think mirror image) and the third carries the earth. It’s very easy to assume that if your equipment has both XLR and RCA connections, that XLR connections are going to be the better sounding connection. So with any system that has both XLR and RCA connections, we would recommend that you try both connections and decide for yourself which is the better sounding connection for you. The problem being that this will give you very little control over the volume and can lead to harsh and fatiguing sound.

This makes a lot of sense in recording studios where long runs of cable are often needed to carry the small voltage signal generated by a microphone over (certainly in terms of hi-fi) very long runs of cable. Including a number of renowned audio cable brands such as Connex, Hosa, and Mogami that will be perfect for your microphones. Along with countless other tasks where you might find an XLR to XLR cable, or XLR splitter necessary. Some manufacturers use XLR connection to carry a stereo signal, 1 pin for left another for right and the third as a common earth.

XLR Cables sport a circular design and range from 3-pin to 7-pins, providing a balanced audio connection. The RØDE XLR43 is a professional-grade, braided-shield 43cm XLR to XLR microphone cable with premium Switchcraft® connectors. So if for instance you were connecting a CD player with XLR connection to an amplifier with RCA connection, you may well find that the extra signal strength will overdrive the RCA input on the amplifier.

In a hi-fi system though, where perhaps the longest interconnect is 1 metre and the signal is up to 4 volts, then the need for XLR connections is more questionable. Whether you need a 3-pin audio cable, XLR to XLR, or XLR Splitter, DJ City is sure to have you covered. So a 3-Pin XLR cable is usually your best bet for connecting the two; whether it's to a USB Audio Interface or external phantom power supply. At the receiving equipment, any noise that is common to both the hot and cold pins is cancelled out. If you're just getting into audio recording, you've probably got yourself a microphone and are wondering the best way to connect it. Our experience is that there are systems where the XLR connection sounds better than the RCA connection, and there are systems where the opposite is true.

Including connecting your DJ mixer to powered speakers, your XLR microphone to a mixer, or patching audio processors together. Everyone’s listening preferences are unique, so we offer a relaxed and pressure free environment, with our three demonstration studios, extensive headphone area and large showroom facilities to aid you in your journey. XLR Cables or 3-Pin Audio cables are traditionally used as professional low noise microphone cables for your dynamic and phantom powered condenser microphones.

This is done by connecting the signal from the centre pin of the RCA plug to the hot pin of the XLR, and the earth to the earth pin. We are proud to have brought together one of the finest selections of audio equipment available, regardless of budget, and we encourage you to book a demonstration and have a listen for yourself.
