About this deal

The Vinyl Pet Heat Pad’s for newborn puppies as they are very vulnerable to chills in their first few days. This is because they cannot control their own body temperature and reply on the bitch for heat. The first step, as with any installation, is to confirm that you have the right equipment. Eric, one our expert sales technicians, walked us through the process of setting up a heat pad with our batteries.

12V and 24V Silicone Rubber Heaters OEM Heaters - 12V and 24V Silicone Rubber Heaters

I tapped into the heat duct run from the furnace as can be seen in the original post, all that's needed is to remove the cover on the end of the drop down hose for more heat to get pushed into the compartment instead of just radiating off of hose. The compartment has already been insulated fairly well, maybe the entire floor in the front compartment should have a piece of foam/ plywood on it just as a layer of insulation.

The Installation

Our Battle Born Batteries ship with 18-8 stainless steel 5/16 – 18 1” and 1 ¼’ bolts, brass washers and 18-8 stainless steel nuts with nylon inserts. As the temperature sensor needs to fit closely to the battery, make sure to measure your wire length and always leave a little extra length until you are ready to complete the heat pad’s installation. Our heat pads come equipped with an ambient temperature sensor. The ambient temperature sensor sits between the battery case and wiring harness, allowing the heat pad to only be turned on when below 35°F. Once the ambient temperature sensor reaches 35°F, the switch is enabled, allowing current to flow to the heat pad.

5 Safe 12V Heating Pads to Keep Warm on the Road

Heat is never an issue, in 4.5 years I've only seen a cell at 80f and that has only been twice. 45-75f is the normal cell temp range depending on season and location. Even charging is a low C rate, .12c is max with solar, .16c is max the panels can produce but there are always loads. If the generator is needed for a boost charge then .2c (100a) is what I'll set the charger to. If the lithium batteries are installed inside your RV, the battery thermal wraps will not needed (assuming, of course, you keep the temperature in your RV high enough to prevent freezing). If the thermal wraps are needed in your application, wrap each battery after the heating pads are applied to the batteries. Note: Expion360’s bus bars cannot be used with Expion360’s thermal wraps due to the narrow, 1/8-inch distance between the batteries when connected in parallel. Additionally we don’t recommend these pads for use in Veterinary centres. For this our recommendation is either the Flexiguard 44 or the Flexiguard 55. Take the length of wire and plug it into your positive push-in connector. This should take the fourth and final slot of the positive push-in connector. This will become the positive ring terminal. For this positive terminal, Eric used about 18 inches of wire.

Got Adventure?

Strip the positive and negative wires from each pair. Once you have stripped all four wires coming out of the heat pad and the additional four wires from the temperature sensor, you are ready to move on to the next step. The heat pad carries about 15W per side, so 14- or 16-gauge wire is typically recommended for extra wire length. Precise and flexible heat distribution plays a crucial role in many applications where temperature control system for heating, warm and frost protection in drums, cylinders or hoppers machinery is invaluable in heating technology.

For this modification, you’ll need the following components available mostly through our friends at Expion360 who designed and tested this system for their excellent VPR PowerMod 12 volt Lithium Battery: The construction of the heating element has a simple concept by laminating spaced resistance wires between two sheets of silicone rubber to improve heat transfer and speed warm-ups of the industrial applications. Positive push-in connector: two white (positive) wires from heat pad and one red (positive) wire from temperature sensor. After the thermal wraps are in place, wire each heating pad to the main fuse panel or directly to the lithium battery using the included 10 amp fuse (we installed ours directly to the batteries using positive and negative bus bars). Lastly, install the master control switch to allow on-off operation of the heating pads. Operation To begin, you will need the heat pad itself as well as the battery you plan to wrap. For tools, we used a pair of wire cutters, a wire stripper, and a crimper.Interesting idea, I hadn't seen that kind of set up before. Basically a tiny mini-split? The first problem I see would be in the summer time, adding more heat to the battery box. If your batteries are in the living space they should get no where near freezing. The only problem with liths is charging when below freezing. I don't take the bus out much, if ever, in the winter. I'm just using the heat pads to make darn sure the batteries never get charged when they are below freezing. Besides the heat pad, which is set to come on about 38°F I also have a total disconnect of the batteries from everything set at about 35°F. Note: Expion360 will be incorporating a thermal cutoff switch in their generation 2 VPR PowerMod batteries, which will be available in the spring of 2020. The low temperature shutoff, according to Expion360, will be a feature of the battery management system and will prevent charging below 32 degrees F and discharging below minus 4 degrees F. The Installation I'm not even worried about the heat generated from them other than if it will stay on for a period of an hour or so without having it turn itself off being sandwiched in the design I'm thinking about. As I said all cells can be seen/ monitored on a display panel in live time readings. Once the cells warm up it would as simple as turning the heating pad off. Maybe I don't even need the heating pad after the plywood and foam insulation is added raising the batteries off the cold steel floor. Today, we are proudly introducing our own branded RS PRO Adhesive Silicone Mat designed for areas where standard heating methods are challenging to apply. Our Mat is self-adhesive and has etched foil element embedded into a glass cloth supported rubber compound.

As a fulltimer living off lfp/ solar not being able to charge the batteries could be an issue as I recently found out. Picasso, I've never seen one of these heating pads in person that's I'm wondering about the placement of it. In the jungle of different wire mats available on the market, it could be a time-consuming exercise to find the right silicone heaters for your project. We have a solution to this problem as our dedicated, carefully selected heaters offer high-quality while keeping your budget under control. The goal to fulltiming in an rv is to run from extreme cold weather but in the past 2 years I've had to be in it for a short duration before I could move. Using 12v instead of 120v saves the lose of converting from the inverter. The only thing that I'm thinking about is with the built in temp on the heating pad will it be turning itself off because it will be within the sandwich under the batteries and not in an open air space of holding tanks?Note: R egarding the Standard, Large and Giant Heat Pads listed here they are not 12v they can’t be used with a car adaptor in a vehicle) I have no experience with this pad maybe someone else does or installed something similar. It has a built-in thermostat that is set to turn itself on at 45°F( + - 5 degrees) and turn itself off at 68°F( + - 5 degrees). As long as the on/ off switch is in the on position.
