About this deal

This newly opened hotel, which is housed in a building that's over 100 years old, has been revamped by Drygate Inns Ltd. St Andrews Castle: The Castle was a bishop’s palace, a fortress and a state prison during its 450-year history. A must visit when in town!

The East Neuk of Fife never fails to charm me with its pretty colours, coastal vistas, fascinating heritage and tasty local produce. This post was written as part of a paid campaign with Museums Galleries Scotland who sent me off an adventure to discover the area’s local museums and many other highlights. Old Rope Store | Best for solo travellers, this single-bed studio is situated on the harbourfront. Inside the old stone walls you’ll find a compact but also wonderfully cosy studio apartment. Book here. Cottages Cellardyke is a hidden gem in the East Neuk of Fife, often overlooked by visitors. The harbour is only half a mile east of Anstruther. The East Neuk of Fife has all the cute coastal charm you could ever need! Read on for my complete guide to the Fife fishing villages of East Neuk… The courses regularly co-host golfing championships including the annual Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with St Andrews and Carnoustie. Also, Kingsbarns Golf Links are listed in the World’s Top 100 Golf Courses. Cambo SandsNearby, you can visit the tiny dark cave– St Fillans Cave. According to legend, in the 7th century, the cave was home to St Fillan, a local Irish missionary who tried to convert local Picts to Christianity. Heading away from the harbour will take you to the centre of Crail which has several cafés and tearooms, a highly-rated local pottery shop, and the Crail Heritage Museum which features lots of exhibits that explain Crail’s history and its fishing industry. Things to Do in Crail

This Crail seafood hut is famed for its lobster and crab rolls, and is located on the harbourside. It has caught the eye of the Good Food Guide as it features in its best places to eat in the East Neuk. Shoreline viewpoint | Alternatively, one of my favourite views of Pittenweem is also the village’s loveliest street. Head west from the harbour, passing onto a street with no cars. Here the whitewashed cottages meet Pittenweem Beach – it’s especially lovely during golden hour ( hereon Google Maps.) The Botanical gardens are also a bit of a hidden gem and a lovely oasis of calm. In contrast head to the town for some lovely independent, family run businesses and a great selection of cafes, restaurants and bars for fuel stops and special meals out. Crail is the most northerly of the villages in East Neuk and is a stone’s throw from St Andrews. Its well-known for its picturesque harbour and the annual Crail Food Festival, which takes place in June each year. Expect to see local traders – many of whom will come from the nearby villages – and lots of fresh local produce to try. Delicious! St Monans is another gem in the East Neuk of Fife. Traditional fisherman cottages with painted walls and red roofs overlook the three-piered harbour.Bowhouse aims to connect small growers and producers with restaurants and shoppers, giving everyone better access to local ingredients and produce. Also, it is great to soak in the atmosphere by walking around the small historic fishermen’s cottages. The large white Customs House is a 17th-century building which stands out with crow step gables. This restaurant opened in 2022, and owners, Nicholas Frost and Damon Reynolds spent 30 intense months refurbishing this 19th century Crail building on High Street North.

Go there on a sunny day when the only noise is the trill of skylarks and the gentle splash of waves and you’ll instantly fall in love with this underappreciated part of Scotland. Slightly inshore to the west of Crail is one of the strangest, yet most interesting, attractions in Scotland. Scotland’s Secret Bunker is an underground Cold War bunker that was designed to survive nuclear armageddon in the 50s and 60s but was abandoned when the threat ended.

Focusing on the people of Fife and their daily lives, the museum displays a number of interesting items including personal belongings, furniture, medicine, groceries, and agricultural tools. You’ll even find jougs (a metal collar with a chain) still attached to the wall of the tolbooth and ‘Weight House’ building, where people were publicly punished for petty crimes. Located around a 30-minute walk from Elie, the crescent of golden sand at Shell Bay is popular with families. Being in a sheltered cove, Shell Bay is an ideal spot for a swim or snorkel in the clear, shallow water. There’re also heaps of facilities at the adjacent at Elie Holiday Park. Enjoy some lunch or home baking at the museum in the family-run Harvest Mouse Tearoom, then finish your visit with a stroll over Bishops Bridge, listening to the babble of Ceres Burn below. Isle of May National Nature Reserve: situated on the eat coast of Scotland. The island is known for its rich bird life, namely puffins as well as seals and reef.. Find Out More You can get a direct bus to Anstruther from Edinburgh, which is great news! However, it’s also worth noting that if you don’t catch the direct bus you may have to change buses twice – which, if you’re anything like me, you probably don’t want to do. The direct bus takes two hours 25 minutes and it’s the X60 bus headed towards St Andrews. By car

The coast has a rich heritage, steeped in tales of fishing traditions, bustling Royal Burghs, and even witch trials. If you’re looking for seaside adventures, there are stunning beaches, tidal swimming pools, water sports and a long distance walking trail on the coast. Amazing food is never far from reach around these parts with quality, local produce found in abundance in the farm shops, eateries and markets. The East Neuk most definitely lives up to its reputation as a foodie destination. Whether walking the Fife Coastal Path, exploring St Monans or shell hunting on the beach has whetted your appetite, the harbour area offers several eating places, including East Pier Smokehouse, which specialises in smoked foods and seafood, and Craig Millar @ 16 West End, a renowned restaurant with spectacular sea views. Rooftop viewpoint | Unsurprisingly, for a village that gathers at the bottom of a steep cliff, the best viewpoint of Pittenweem is from up high. To take in the red tiled roofs, fishermen cottages, its harbour, and the sea beyond, head west from Pittenweem harbour – when the village ends follow the path up the hill towards West Braes Park. From here it’s a steep but short walk to the cliff top. Once at the top of the hill, you’ll have the most spectacular views over Pittenweem below, looking incredibly picture-perfect ( hereon Google Maps).
