About this deal

Read on to discover my list of the 8 best crystal books for beginners, plus a couple of extras for those who want more! Standing on top of the tumulus, the countryside fanned out into the distance and the huge scale of the Alignments, one of the world's largest Neolithic monuments, became clear. Covering an area of 40 hectares, the fields of stones stretched further than I could see. It seemed unbelievable that thousands of menhirs weighing several tonnes each were quarried, moved and erected in an age when stone tools were the height of technology. Harlow, George.E., ed. (1998) The Nature of Diamonds. Press Syndicate of the Cambridge University Press, Cambridge and New York. ISBN: 0521629357 Other strong themes in the book are friendship and empathy: both Rosie and Emma’s stories centre around the girls and their close circle of friends. We witness the joy of shared experiences, and the succour and the lifeline that true friendship can provide. I particularly enjoyed the friendship between Rosie and Jude; the portrayal of a sensitive and highly-emotionally-intelligent teenage male was absolutely wonderful to see. He radiates empathy and kindness.

How to Vote

Because the story takes place in a mission hospital, the set-up included a lot of religious detail that also felt too removed from the characters to interest me. Overall, this book is really great. It is a bit similar to the crystal bible except that it covers many more crystals. A sweeping, emotionally riveting first novel - an enthralling family saga of Africa and America, doctors and patients, exile and home. I don’t think I am singing from the same hymn sheet as most people on good reads when it comes to my rating of Cutting for stone and while I did enjoy some aspects of the book, over all it was long drawn out and hard work. My VIP patients often regret so many things on their deathbeds. They regret the bitterness they’ll leave in people’s hearts. They realize that no money, no church service, no eulogy, no funeral procession no matter how elaborate can remove the legacy of a mean spirit.” (Cutting for Stone, pg 434)

Many readers will tell you that Cutting for Stone is the epic story of two conjoined twins fathered by a brilliant British Surgeon and an Indian Nun. And it technically is. Narrated by Marion the first born twin we are told of every influence on his and his brother’s existence. More than the story being told however, the novel is an accurate portrayal of life in all it’s cruelty and wonder. This book contains 100 crystal profiles and explains how to call on crystal energy to manifest powerful intentions with purpose. The is far and away the best book on crystals and gemstones you'll yet find. It's beautifully illustrated with full-colour photos of each type of stone and there are So Many listed herein. Each stone is introduced by keywords, associated elements, and associated chakras. The core description begins with a geological notation on the stone's mineral constituents and where the stone is usually found. Thereafter is an intuitive description from Robert Simmons and then an intuitive description from Naisha Ahsian (with occasional descriptions from Hazel Raven). Simmons typically gives other suggestions for which other stones will work well with a given stone. Ahsian typically ends her descriptions with a physical/emotional/spiritual summary and affirmation. More than a few people who’ve read the novel mentioned to me that they wanted to discontinue reading the novel. And I understood what they meant, when I finished reading Cutting for Stone this last weekend. The author, Abraham Verghese, is a physician, and his experience and knowledge come through in spades. They add a level of realism and veracity to the story that might be missing in the hands of a non-professional. However, it is not his medical expertise that shines brightest in this story, it is his understanding of human beings and his ability to create characters who are real and warm and vulnerable. Not recommended. I’m not sure if I should even keep the 2 stars rating. I mean the premise is very interesting and I want to read books about characters living in different parts of the world but on the other hand, I can’t stand boring plots and characters I don’t care about. Best book for introducing crystals: The Little Book of Crystals: A Beginner's Guide to Crystal Healing My favorite parts of this sizable tome were, of course, the medical jargon and the lyrically gory descriptions of diseases and surgeries. This fantastic read is easy to understand and very informative. It provides a good explanation with examples and pictures so you can easily identify crystals.

Adamite is a zinc arsenate mineral with a hardness of 3.5. Its crystal structure is orthorhombic, and it often occurs in radiated aggregates or fan-shaped rosettes. The majority of specimens are an inch or less in diameter. It is usually a bright yellow-green color, but it can also be honey yellow, brown, white, pale green, blue-green or colorless. It forms in oxidized parts of ore veins, especially arsenic-rich zinc deposits. Most of the finest pieces of Adamite are from Mexico and Namibia. This book is an essential reference for all crystal lovers, and definitely the most complete book on gemstones you’ll find.

Adamite can also assist one in discovering one’s true passion or joy in life. Often, people are confused about their spiritual purpose because they don’t realize that the Divine’s will for us is to follow our greatest joy--thus sharing and spreading that joy to others. Adamite’s ability to stimulate our awareness of joy, to deepen our creative connection and to assist in manifesting our desires, all assist in the recognition and manifestation of one’s spiritual path of service in the world. Yes, I was equally as impressed as I was slightly blowing steam off through my nares by being constantly dropped into the world of Latin by a surgeon (Dr.Thomas Stone) whose work was his life hiding his "social retardiness" - as expressed by his colleagues. I did not want to read a medical journal at all ! Everyday Crystal Rituals is a must-have for crystal lovers, healers, and those who are interested in crystals. Overall not a book I regret reading as I am sure it will provide good discussion but unfortunately not a book to sit on my real life book shelf. This book did not do it either, thank goodness, but I was holding my breath! With the intensity and detail the characters' lives, especially those of the twins, were initially colored in with Latin so lavishly splashed all over it, anything was possible! And everything pointed to a great love story in the making after all!

This stone’s energy can also help to re-light the passionate spark of sexuality within loving relationships, as it assists couples in rediscovering their playfulness and joy in one another. Reading this is an immersion of the senses. Once I cared about the characters, I found the medical knowledge fascinating and suspenseful. This book covers everything from choosing your crystal to programming it for your personal use. You’ll learn how to wear crystals, how to meditate with them, crystal ball reading, and more. Sunagawa, Ichiro (2005) Crystals: Growth, Morphology and Perfection. Cambridge University Press, England. ISBN: 0521841895 Winter, Colin H. (2003) A Students Guide to Spectroscopy. This book is probably one of the most popular crystal books for beginners you can find. Written by Judy Hall, the crystal bible is THE reference when it comes to crystal healing. The Tiger who Sleeps Under My Chair is a powerful dual narrative which moves between Rosie’s life in the present day and that of her great-great-grandmother, Emma, as a teen in the late 1800s. This enables us to see the stark contrast between Victorian and modern attitudes around mental health. This historical perspective will be enlightening for younger readers as they are introduced to asylums, confinement, and the notion of mental illness as a weakness – and one that was associated mainly with women. In this ultimate guide, the author describes how you can use crystals to empower your meditations, energize your body, and reveal the healing powers of crystals.
