About this deal

Narcissism and self-love often get linked together, but these two concepts could not be more different. One is self-absorption while the other is self-awareness. The person who practices true self-love cannot be narcissistic. The practicing narcissist can never know self-love. By working Step Eleven we are given another reprieve from our co-dependent thinking and behavior. We learn the difference between our will for ourselves, what we think another’s will for us might be, and God’s will. We are reminded that our Higher Power is not us, or another person, place or thing. Our lives become simplified. The question that remains for us is - ‘Am I willing to pray only for knowledge of God’s will for me, during those times when I want my will so much?’ ‘God’s will for me must be to have this job, this relationship, this car, this experience.’

We approach prayer and meditation in different ways … Some commune with nature and the outdoors; some say words like ‘serenity’ and ‘love’ to feel quiet within; some use affirmations to bring their higher power into their thoughts; some kneel in quiet repose; some sit and breathe deeply; and some use self-talk to connect with themselves and their higher power. When we first decided to attend an ACA meeting, we entered these rooms alone, scared, angry, or exhausted. We knew we needed to do something, but we didn't know what - that's why we came here. Many of us were looking for ways to change the people in our lives, and we wanted to change them now.

We don't need to read every self-help book this week or hand the Laundry List to everybody we know. If we really want to trust that the program is going to work for us, we learn to follow in the footsteps of those who came before us - to slow down and "Take It Easy." The book is structured to help you access the love inside you and grow the awareness and skills you need to become your own loving parent: In Chapters 17-21, Nurturing a Loving Inner Home, you’ll connect more deeply with your inner family to build a loving inner home.

The ACA Twelve Traditions provide guidelines for group conduct just as the ACA Steps provide guidelines for individual recovery.Success in ACA is not measured with money or social status, but with inner peace and serenity. We share our experience, strength and hope with each other as we laugh together, cry together and know that we are home. By allowing my Higher Power in, I affirm that I am not merely molecules, I am a spiritual being, created to love and be loved. Other Laundry List trait 5: We live life from the standpoint of a victimizer, and are attracted to people we can manipulate and control in our important relationships.
