Important Eye Drop Information
You have been started on the following medication:
Xalatan (latanoprost 0.005%) to be taken at night
to your right / left / both eye(s).
Please continue this medication until further notice. You will need to contact your GP to obtain further supplies of these eye drops, not from the hospital. We will write to your GP to explain this, so that you can obtain repeat prescriptions.
Please ask a nurse to explain how to put in the drops if you are unsure. Remember to take your drops with you if you are going away from home for a period.
It is not uncommon to experience some slight redness of the eyes for several weeks after starting this medication. This is normal, and will settle down over a few weeks.
Occasionally some people are allergic to eye drops. The symptoms of allergy typically include redness, itching and discomfort. In this situation, a further eye assessment is necessary. For those who are unable to take these drops, there are several alternative eye drops that can be considered.
Xalatan may cause eyelash thickening, darkening; and also darkening of the iris. The iris colour change may affect those with blue/green eye colour to a greater extent. In most cases, this change occurs very slowly (over years).
Xalatan should be stored in cool location (ie a fridge) before opening, however after opening storage at room temperature is acceptable. http://www.glaucomaspecialist.co.uk
