About this deal

Upon dry-down, leather provides the main base note, closely followed by oak-moss and a dash of sweet-smelling patchouli. A light combo of sweet tonka bean and cinnamon also rise after an hour or two. Upon dry-down, leather is most dominant and accompanied by oakmoss. Dry, smokey vetiver and deep woody notes also creep in. Settles into a rich leather scent with manly woods, exotic herbs and an animalic castoreum note. As for when to wear, this spicy/sweet tonka bean and tobacco seems almost tailor-made for the chilly autumn and winter months. I would say better suited for later afternoon and evening. Very classy.

As for when to wear, Aramis JHL is an excellent choice for autumn/winter evenings when the warming and spicy notes will hold their own.

Presented in a straight-lined bottle with a gun-metal grey cap and complementing grey coloured label with white surround. The fragrance itself emits a golden glow. Upon dry-down, patchouli and oakmoss provide additional punch, with woody notes coming into play once this scent has fully settled.

The Tobacco Reserve starts very sweet with tonka and tobacco. Sage spices and nutmeg provides a very subtle spiciness. Fruity notes flashed briefly times and are then gone again. I would not have recognized currant. A little moss at the end and that's it. The initial sweetness becomes more bearable as it progresses, resulting in a finely balanced scent between tobacco and spices that also has a fairly good longevity. Smoky I do not find him thereby. Launched in 1982, Aramis JHL is a traditional cologne that blends spices and woods. Delicate floral notes such as carnation, ylang-ylang and rose also appear for a well rounded masculine scent. Aramis Special Bendis a luxury scent consisting of boozy/woody/musky notes that is undeniably extravagant and rather Clive Christian-esque in its delivery. Tonka bean from the base rises after 30 minutes or so to provide a smooth but slightly dirty almond/vanilla note. Very suave smelling. While many of Aramis's fragrances are colognes or eaux de toilette, Tobacco Reserve (like Modern Leather) is an eau de parfum concentration, suggesting possibly greater projection and longevity.

Author Bio

Aramis has been launching a new fragrance nearly every year as of late. Tobacco Reserve follows last year's launch of Aramis Modern Leather. Performance is pretty good, although sillage and projection are not huge, yet longevity is a more than reasonable 5+ hours. This is an incredibly versatile and refined cologne which is pretty much an any-season fragrance. More suited to daytime smart-casual wear rather than full-on formal evening attire, it feels great on. In 2018, Aramis is launching a new woody aromatic fragrance with a strong tobacco note at its heart, Tobacco Reserve. Named for a character in Dumas' The Three Musketeers, Aramis is a classic American fragrance and grooming brand which was established in 1964 by Estée Lauder Company. Its first product was the legendary Aramis fragrance by Bernard Chant. Or is it really no more complicated than Aramis Tobacco Reserve just wasn't that good or unique to stand out from the crowd of more recently released tobacco fragrances?

If like me, you don’t love a full-on leather fragrance, then Aramis Modern Leatheris a brilliant choice. Released in 2017, this masculine fragrance injects herbs and green geranium into the mix that seems to calm the overall leather note beautifully. So on the passage to Point Comfort, the crew was in high spirits, while their captain grew more nervous by the day. The crew blamed it on possible discovery by the British. No wonder, they couldn't even have put up a proper fight, the gun barrels were stuffed with tobacco and they wouldn't have found the powder among all the cargo. But that was not the reason. Aramis previously focused on tobacco with their 1994 Havana and the 1996 follow-up, Havana Reserva, both composed by the great Edouard Fléchier. The two Havana scents developed a loyal following with the former being relaunched (and sadly somewhat reformulated) in 2009. Opening with a blast of green notes, coriander, citrus and rosewood, you could be fooled into thinking that’s it. Patience is needed for this beauty to fully reveal itself. A smooth sweet tobacco (not the dark) sitting on a bed of warm and sweet tonka bean with a bit of spice&moss. The spiciness is fresh yet warm, dry and refined with the nutmeg and slight clary sage. The oakmoss is realistic and blends well providing the right amount of earthiness to add some masculine sex appeal, the tonka is nicely rendered here and not at all cloying or overpowering. It's a green from a night garden, fresh and ready to morning dew. It's not quiet, it speaks and you can hear it clearly, like a singer, you will hear it and it will enchant you with it's voice. It is inspiring and yet so striking that you have to like this combination if you want to wear the Aramis Tobacco Reserve. Nutmeg adds some spice whilst orris brings a powdery sweetness with floral hints. Upon dry-down, spicy/sweet tonka bean is most prominent, adding a delicious vanilla note that blends so well with the tobacco.
