If the albums have become fewer and further between, however, there’s been a definite sense of quality over quantity. And the band have freed themselves from that relentless grind of the album-tour-album cycle that nearly finished them on more than one occasion. After 15 albums and being one of the most recognisable bands in heavy metal, Iron Maiden need no introduction. Iron Maiden is a band that takes its themes, concepts, and lyrical content very seriously, and on this album there is no exception. This album runs a gauntlet of songs about space, whether it's exploring it or being stranded in it. And there are also a lot of themes about going home and missing loved ones; kind of about being away from where you're used to being. Mother of Mercy and Coming Home are good, enjoyable songs but dont blow you away altough there are some brilliant moments in said songs.. The Final Frontier truly recovers the spark and fire of BNW and DOD, it also hasn't the faulty structural songwriting of AMOLAD as there are shorter songs. Even somewhat repetitive songs like Isle of Avalon are still much better than Brighter Than A Thousand Suns. "Satellite 15… The Final Frontier" is probably the most controversial of the whole album. Yes, for many this intro is really heavy. If the album was conceptual, we'd understand it, but four minutes could be an acoustic torture for many, especially when the intro is embedded in an as devastating beginning as the song itself. It's perhaps their best opener since Sign Of The Cross. Someone said that this band always did the same, but here Smith begins with elegance-made music. Wonderful start.Up at 7am, a great way to start this beautiful day with a visit to the Dentist this morning (I chipped one tooth and a crown fell off another over the weekend). Seems I'm just falling apart! A pretty Bahamian dentist Dr Coverly worked on my teeth in her high heels and a nicely coiffed do. A first for me! The atmosphere is, at first, grim and evil, with a march-like tempo driving precise, unison playing. Lyrically we’re into some unpleasant territory, but that’s befitting the nature of the song. All in all, this is another great Iron Maiden album that proves the band's continuing relevance in the modern day. There are some derivative moments where the band plays things a little safe but there are just as many that manage to keep things interesting. Whatever the case, here's hoping that the band will keep their momentum going and astound us all for just a little while longer... Bruce came by today to hear the five mixes that were done. Did a little touch up on When the Wild Wind Blows mix, compiled the lead vocals on The Alchemist and mixed it as well.

Bruce came in from Marina Del Ray and sang two songs today - Satellite 15 and When the Wild Wind Blows. Started working on the Wild Wind mix. EMI released the album in most of the world, while in the United States it was released jointly by Universal Music Enterprises and Sony Music Entertainment – the successor to the Sanctuary Records/ Columbia Records joint venture that had previously controlled the Iron Maiden catalogue in North America. Thirty years on from their eponymous debut album in April 1980, The Final Frontier will be Maiden's 15th studio album, making a remarkable average of a new album every two years for 30 years and totaling over 80 million album sales during this period. Canadian album certifications – Iron Maiden – The Final Frontier". Music Canada . Retrieved 26 September 2019. If you dont think this album is that great just listen to Isle of Avalon and The Talisman loud with headphones then the rest of the album and hopefully it'll change your mind.Few bands within the metal scene are held in as high regard as Iron Maiden; and not without good reason. For more than three decades now the band has consistently set the bar very high for bands everywhere to attempt to match. Whilst it is almost certainly true that their newer works are not quite as hard hitting nor as powerful as album like "The Number Of The Beast"; each release the band has put out has had more positives than negatives. So when news arrived that the band was working on their first studio in four years, many a metal fan's hearts suddenly began to beat faster in anticipation and quite rightfully so. After all, 2006's "A Matter Of Life And Death" had arguably been the band's strongest work since "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Sun". The question that many would pose would be whether the band could pump out yet another album of a high standard despite the fact the band were rapidly ageing. Kerrang! 's Top 20 albums of 2010". Kerrang!. 21 December 2010. Archived from the original on 29 October 2013 . Retrieved 15 December 2013. For those who haven't been paying attention to the band's recent musical shifts, it can be safely said that very little on this album has any resemblance to the band's "classic" 80's sound. There is no Run To The Hills, The Trooper, or even a Can I Play With Madness within this album's long duration!

The studio had the same vibe and it was exactly as it had been in 1983, nothing had changed! Even down to the broken shutter in the corner... same carpet... everything... It was really quite spooky. But we felt very relaxed in such a familiar and well-trodden environment and I think this shows in the playing and the atmosphere of the album. [8] Instead, this album continues the dark progressive metal sound that the band undertook with 1995's The X Factor and has a lot in common with 2006's A Matter Of Life And Death with its complex structures, theatrical contrasts, and occasionally brooding themes.

You see, I don't think you need to be a composer to criticize music. Of course, if I were a musician, I could hit the nail on the head and give you a list of theoretical reasons why The Final Frontier is not a good album. But every single fan out there has an instinct that tells him/her if an album is good or bad. We may not be able to explain why, but we know. Oh, yes. We do. Hell no, they start in an acoustic and slow way, do they want to replicate Fear of the Dark over and over? It's too hard for them to make songs like The Trooper or Aces High?
