About this deal

I need to spend more time with the table before a final verdict, but so far, if you are looking for an affordable and easy-to-maintain way of having pinball in the home, the Arcade1Up Attack From Mars machine is a great option. The machine wasn’t as expensive as a “real” table, but it’s not cheap either, and given its bulk I didn’t fancy the prospect of working out a pickup and refund in the middle of a pandemic. Which means, as much as I might want a Stern Godzilla, my bank balance and the reality of freelance journalist life means I can’t afford one. Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. The ratings/reviews displayed here may not be representative of every listing on this page, or of every review for these listings.

Yes if made to high spec with all the feedback options they are very good for what they are and let you play 100’s of emulated pins. Having given it time for the new paint smell to wear off (and take the edge off the potential, here’s my quick review. Then last few years or so been to a few retro gaming conventions (used to be a regular one at Media City nr the Trafford Centre in Manchester) but mainly now it is the arcade club in Bury every few months. Just because you can Rule The Universe and score 40billion on AFM on a vpin, does not mean the same will happen on a real machine. I understand many like the backglass and DMD to be separate, but there are many tables that I really like the art around the DMD and speakers, which can only be done if it was 1 screen. You dont need any special video, and a high rez monitor is a total waste, because the games run in super low resolutions. Peek over the fake coin doors, and you'll quickly see where Arcade1Up's system differs hugely from the real thing: a 24-inch LCD panel, offset by a significant bezel all around (wood on top and bottom, aluminum on the left and right). Some years back I recorded a special ep of Vertical Hold with Tim Arnold from the Las Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame, and he commented that there’s nothing quite like actual, physical pinball. LCD playfield, haptic touch flippers with feedback, real feel tilt and nudge, a working plunger, light up back glass, dual speakers and much more.

In what is possibly the greatest collaboration since Luke, Obi-Wan, Han and Chewie met up in a bar in Mos Eisley, this all-new digital pinball adventure is brought to you by Arcade1Up, Pinball FX game developer Zen Studios, and Disney. I guess one day I could get into hacking it and using it for other projects, but this seems like a missed opportunity. My cabinet highlights the original Williams table Attack From Mars, while Arcade1Up's two other 2021 models are decorated with Star Wars and Marvel characters, respectively. For playing at night, especially if you have to place your machine in a spot in the house where others who might not appreciate the silver ball quite as much as you do.To regain access, please make sure that cookies and JavaScript are enabled before reloading the page. Personalised advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of information under California and other state privacy laws, and you may have a right to opt out. It’s not (legally) extensible: We live in a connected world, and virtual pinball like this isn’t the 100% exclusive invention of Arcade1UP.

The backplate, by the way, is a printed poster that doesn't change regardless of which virtual game you're playing. However, the combination of the recessed screen, physical solenoids firing in time with the virtual flippers and nudge detection, enable the Arcade1Up machine to trick your brain into forgetting there is not a real ball on a real play-field.

If you can't afford a Virtuapin or a VPCabs, or something like that, and you have no building skills, this may be the way to go. Power the system on, and after an admittedly overlong loading screen, Arcade1Up's interface pops up, revealing a selection of 10 games as powered by Zen Studios' digital-pinball ecosystem.
