About this deal

Fox was recorded by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and Odyssey Opera who were subsequently awarded the Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording. Dahl gifted readers some of literature’s most abiding and wonderful characters, from the lovable dream-whispering, word-mangling giant, the BFG, to magical Matilda, chocolate-maker extraordinaire Willy Wonka and many more. A short chapter book where readers will be routing for Mr Fox, the heroic father who is doing everything his can to rescue his family from mean farmers, gunfire, starvation and death.

They are rightly ranked among the greatest classics of children’s fiction, stories that celebrate kindness, bravery and hope. Perhaps not as urbane as portrayed by Clooney and directed by Anderson, Dahl’s fox is nonetheless fantastic for his ability to outfox messers Boggis, Bunce, and Bean. These farms belong to three different mean and greedy farmers, one fat, one short and one lean: Farmer Boggis has a farm full of plump chickens, Farmer Bunce has a farm full of juicy duck and geese and Farmer Bean has a farm filled with turkeys and apples. But the Fox isn’t really that fantastic, let’s be honest with ourselves, the solutions to his problems are so.At the table, Mr Fox invites everyone to live in a secret underground neighbourhood with him and his family, where he will hunt on their behalf daily and where none of them will need to worry about the farmers anymore. Roald Dahl at his best - an oft overlooked story (at least until the film adaptation) this is lots of fun. Working from his memory of the aboveground routes he has used, he and his children tunnel into Boggis's four chicken houses.

His first children's book was The Gremlins, about mischievous little creatures that were part of RAF folklore. Instead of trying to negotiate (or even work for a living), the Fox family makes a run for it and they end up endangering all the animal families that live in the hill, the Badgers, the Weasels, the Moles, the Rabbits, etc. The decision was met with sharp criticism from groups and public figures including authors Salman Rushdie [4] [5] and Christopher Paolini, [5] British prime minister Rishi Sunak, [4] [6] Queen Camilla, [4] [7] Kemi Badenoch, [8] PEN America, [4] and Brian Cox. Born over 100 years ago Dahl is still read and enjoyed today by millions around the world, he even has Roald Dahl Story Day, an annual celebration of his stories! But Mr Fox is a crafty, noble fox with lots of little foxlets to feed, and he isn’t going to give up that easily. But it was as a children’s author that he found greatest fame and satisfaction, saying “I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers…Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful. On the way to their next destination, Mr Fox runs into his friend Badger and asks him to accompany him on his mission, as well as to extend an invitation to the feast to the other burrowing animals - Badger and his family, as well as the Moles, the Rabbits and the Weasels - to apologize for getting them caught up in the farmers' hunt.

So when they declare war on Mr Fox, who has been stealing their chickens and cider to feed the starving animals on the hillside, they mean business! But the three dim-witted and mean farmers have had enough of Mr Fox stealing from them and constantly outwitting them with his trickery and cunning and a feud between Mr Fox and the farmers ensues. A line saying that "fat Boggis was hopping about like a dervish" was also altered to just "Boggis was hopping about like a frog".Quentin Blake has illustrated more than three hundred books and was Roald Dahl's favourite illustrator. From a young age on I always adored stories about forest animals (which is why it's even more incomprehensible and outrageous that I have missed out on such a classic until now)! I watched the movie yesterday, which led to me picking up the book as well to see whether it would hold up. First because most of them are really bad at it and if you are bad at stealing you will get caught, or at least noticed and that's not a good thing.

Mr Fox is a very clever fox - every evening he creeps down into the valley and helps himself to food from the nearby farms. The film adds scenes before Mr Fox attacks the three farmers and after they bulldozed the hill, as well as a slightly altered ending and more background on Mr Fox's past life as a thief of food. In 1994, Fantastic Mr Fox was awarded the Read Aloud BILBY Award from the Children's Book Council of Australia.
