They’re more comfortable and definitely roll faster as I’m setting new PR’s on all my regular Strava routes. The tread puncture resistance is only slightly higher than the 5000 S TR ( read our review), and you still have to rely on tubeless sealant to seal small punctures. They feel fast too, I don't maintain the 45kph that they are rated at, but believe the claims they offer less rolling resistance. Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load.

Previously I have ridden tubular for racing but as I have a nice set of 50mm Campag deep section clincher rims I decided to fit these with a decent tyre for racing, went for the 25mm front and rear. Light, fast, and grippy, the GP5000 Clincher Tyre packs in Continental's latest technology for performance and comfort. The thread count used here mirrors the S TR and even racier TT TR tyre, but, as previously noted, the GP5000 AS TR uses an additional ply of it to improve durability. For comparison, this semi-crystalline fabric is more cut resistant than aramid and has five times the tensile strength of steel.I had also used Conti Gator Skins on my Old Touring bike from 2004 until it was replaced in January 2016. As a reference, my 25mm 5000 measures just over 27mm on my 19mm internal rims (whereas the 4000 measured nearly 29). The lazered micro profile structure expands over the tire’s shoulder and provides outstanding cornering. Continental says the 5000 has 12% less rolling resistance, 20% better ouncture protection, 10% lighter, and offers a smoother and more comfortable ride.

The new Grand Prix 5000 AllSeason TR is available in 4 different sizes (25-622, 28-622, 32-622, 35-622) and we applaud the addition of the 35-622 size as it makes this an exciting tire for those that ride fast touring bikes.
