Trinity says that one of the biggest things she learned is to speak up when something doesn’t feel right.
The Trinity intrigued me, so I was happy when my first semester of seminary offered me the opportunity to take a class on the doctrine. In the gospel and the New Testament Yahweh, the Creator and Covenant God, more fully reveals his name and his nature: God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. My parents and I do not have a perfect relationship, but part of honoring them is that I don’t air out our dirty laundry. Between the two—the Father (God knowing Himself) and the Son (God’s knowledge of Himself)—there flows a mutual love. Eternal God, Eternal Trinity, You have made the Blood of Christ so precious through His sharing in your Divine Nature. From the first verses of the story of beginnings in the book of Genesis—“In the beginning God,” to Moses seeing the flaming bush and fire-seared mountains of the covenant, to the clear confession: “Listen, Israel: Yahweh our God, Yahweh is one” (Deuternomoy 6:4).
After doing a Trinity lesson sent by our youth Pastor this week, she thought herself very clever to notice that 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 …. He tell us this in John 5 that the Father and the Son do the same, identical work: “Jesus responded to them, ‘My Father is still working, and I am working also’” (5:17).Like a good parent, God lets me make mistakes and is there for me when I regret and learn and move on from them. He explains that “in the beginning,” before the creation, the Word was already there: “He was with God in the beginning” (1:2). We have personhood that requires other persons to have relationship, but He is complete in His Personhood, and requires no other. What’s amazing is that Lawonna was a working mom, and often Trinity was with babysitters and nannies growing up. The Bible pulls back the curtain on this beautiful, profound mystery and glimpses the way that God can be three persons in one divine nature.
