About this deal

Enjoy some of our recommended books for younger children about animals, from classics like Dick King-Smith's Sheep Pig to modern favourites like Ed Vere's Mr. If you haven't encountered Hairy Maclary and his doggy friends then you and your children are missing a treat. I think it could inspire very creative writing, with children making up their own animals out for a walk and then giving them imaginative names. Exuberant artwork and bouncy rhymes come together perfectly in books like Slinky Malinki and Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy .

Schnitzel von Krumm with a very low tum) and picture - then the preceding dogs are all named again: dada dididah dada dididah . Hairy Maclary goes off for a walk in town, followed by a few friends - and comes up against a nasty surprise in the shape of Scarface Claw!

Hairy Maclary causes trouble again when he is simply not in the mood for the Kennel Club's Obedience Class. It's a lovely little poem about a dog (Hairy Maclary) who takes himself for a walk and gets joined, one at a time, by his pack.

Characters, events and therefore language are repetitive and cumulative, after the manner of " Old MacDonald had a farm".That in itself isn’t necessarily a bad thing, in fact it probably makes it more appealing to a broader spectrum of age groups. Join Hairy Maclary and his friends on their first ever adventure in this golden 40th anniversary edition of the beloved rhyming classic! Slinky Malinki and Stickybeak Sid are home alone, causing a trail of destruction from bathroom to bedroom.

I remember asking my reception class to carefully observe his features and we discussed the way Lynley Dodd had drawn him; with straight, short pencil lines, creating his circular body and head. The plots are simple, keeping with the comprehension-level of the age group for which they are written. Lynley Dodd is New Zealand's bestselling children's author/illustrator and has an international following.Hairy Maclary is a fictional dog, the hero of a series of children's picture books created by the New Zealand author Lynley Dodd and making his first appearance in 1983 with the publication of Hairy Maclary From Donaldson’s Dairy. I have a little boy and love reading to him, so this reading list will cover the classic (and new) children’s stories we’re enjoying together. As Hairy Maclary meets another dog, they are all added to a long list, which encourages children to repeat the names and remember the rhymes and alliteration. and Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy" accompany a series of illustrations showing Hairy Maclary sniffing the bottom of a lamppost, burrowing into a hedge, barking at some birds and raiding a garbage can. With unforgettable illustrations and a brilliant rhyming text, it's a true delight to read aloud again and again.

Clearly someone has been hitting the cat steroids, or perhaps he has some form of gangsta influence scaring all the others despite his diminutive size (that makes sense because of the Al Pacino movie right? The immensely popular Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy is now available as an interactive KIWA Book with wonderful narration by David Tennant (Good Omens, Doctor Who). Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy became an instant favourite when it was published in 1983, and children today still love following Hairy's adventures. Told through playful rhymes and watercolour illustrations, this hilarious classic story has delighted children for generations. I don't see what makes it particularly special, other than there are probably not a lot of kids' books published in NZ.The plots are simple, in keeping with the comprehension of the pre-reading age group for which they are ranged. This mum to one precocious and talented little girl is tired of changing half the pronouns in your books. They include purposeful writing suggestions, links to the wider curriculum so that texts can be used across other subjects, key questions as well as spelling or phonics investigations. It’s a cushioned board back that won’t scratch if your munchkin decides to give it a good doggy chew. Each dog has it's own rhyming couplet (eg, Hairy Maclary, from Donaldson's Dairy - Hercules Morse, as big as a horse) and as each extra dog joins we start the cumulative list again from the top, in the same way as There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly.
