About this deal

The plot and story, the interesting characters and dialogue, the mystery and suspense behind all of the crimes, the need to find out how things all tie up in the end, the adrenaline rushes, the plot twists, the writing in general, all of it made for a wonderful and explosive read. Long conversations that no one ever would have in their entire life just to explain some complicated part of the story, and I suppose to add credibility. He’s intimidating and looking to punish himself for his past crimes, but, as another character points out, he’s kinder than he lets on and deeply cares about those close to him. He opens the book with a good hook, “Travis Devine took a shallow breath, ignored the heat and humidity that was rising fast along with the sun, and rushed to board the 6:20 train, like it was the last flight out of Saigon.

No Travis finds himself the prime suspect, and the target of a government body who want him to investigate the CEO Brad Cowl, in exchange for his army secrets staying that way. This meaning is well brought out in the familiar words of Psalm 121, "He that keepeth thee will not slumber.Devine thinks things through and often has some plan to get out of trouble, but if he didn’t have one, he’d be quick on his feet to think one up just as well. Currently, however, there is not a solid scientific understanding of how this goal can best be achieved. You may think this is a "Girl on the Train," "Rear Window," a Ryan, Reacher, and Bourne action thriller/movie, or a Bernie Madoff Ponzi financial scheme— THINK AGAIN! Baldacci’s experience in this genre truly shines as he builds complex layers of riveting twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat! Many thanks to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for providing a digital review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Baldacci hits the mark with this piece, intertwining some military background with a crime thriller that is sure to keep the reader up well into the night.

A brilliant thriller that sits somewhere between a political thriller and an investigation set in the world of financial misconduct and murder. The mystery behind the guilt the fuels our protagonist’s every day struggle to work in a place that makes him loath his life had me fully invested in his life in just the first 5 pages. The main character, a West Point grad, Army Ranger, Captain in the Army, multiple ribbons, hero, MBA, etc.

A lifelong Virginian, David is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia School of Law. However, nothing is as it appears in the most dangerous of investigations, in which Devine is aided by his housemates, particularly the Russian Will Valentine, a white hatter hacker, and the surprising help that comes from Michelle Montgomery. Paul, as tending to augment dissension and hatred, and to exalt into an undue prominence mere words and phrases. A lot of high finance shenanigans and techno babble all of which goes over my head – so I depend on the characters to carry the story for me. Something intrusted to you to keep--not a possession you have discovered for yourself; something you have received from another--not what you have thought out for yourself .

Be it talking about the corporate world and some of the more underhand tactics used by Devine’s boss in building his fortune, Devine’s time in the Rangers or even just the familial and professional or personal relationships that we bear witness to in this book, it all feels real.Turning away from ( ἐκτρεπόμενος); only here in the middle voice, "turning from," "avoiding," with a transitive sense. There is increasing interest in using robotic devices to assist in movement training following neurologic injuries such as stroke and spinal cord injury. For this reason, even though I suffer as I do, I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him for that day.
