About this deal

This is because, unlike the rawl plug and screw solution, Corefix bridges the gap between the plasterboard and the solid wall behind it, so ensuring that the load is spread between the plasterboard and the solid wall. The steel core in this plasterboard fixing transfers the load from the board to the solid blockwork or masonry material behind and whilst other frame fixings claim to perform the same role these can severely distort and bow the plasterboard.

The screw is 120mm long and 5mm across the maximum diameter of the threads with the head maximum diameter being 10mm. Tap the steel core home until flush with the plug, then install your bracket using the supplied screw. Corefix is part of the Metex range of innovate products designed for the construction and pest control sectors. Simply drill the hole through the plasterboard and into the solid wall behind, ensuring the total depth is a minimum of 100mm, remove any dust or debris from the hole before gently tapping the Corefix plug into place until the flange sits against the plasterboard. For heavier stuff I use Corefix, these go through the plasterboard and right into the solid wall with an internal strengthening collar to bridge the gap. Use this wall fixing kit to secure wall units, shelves, cabinets, radiators and more to plasterboard over blockwork walls in your home. Because these fixings have been especially designed to provide a secure fixing into exactly these types of internal walls. Corefix is ideal for fixing heavy items such as TVs, radiators or kitchen cabinets to dot and dab plasterboard walls with a safe working load of 100kg in masonry blockwork.

Initially designed for hanging heavy kitchen cabinets, it is now widely used in the plumbing and heating, kitchen, bathroom and DIY sectors. The plugs, while cleverly designed, are made of a very cheap material and the screw will strip it if tightened with anything other than a hand screwdriver. The recommended safe load of 73kg (4 x fixings) includes a conservative Factor of Safety (see datasheet for further details). It has been tested to over 250kg on four fixings, enough to support even the largest radiator, boiler, TV, wall cabinet and all wall-mounted sanitary ware. As written it is not appropriate for heavy loads on dot-and-dab walls, and with respect to them taking the effort to post and meaning well with it I suspect they haven't actually implemented the method all that often in practice. Independently tested and certified: Made in Britain, our wall fixings have been independently strength tested, verified, and certified to ensure a strong, secure, and safe finish, making them a top choice for modern homes.

The best fixings to use for a dot and dab wall, where a heavy load is going to need to be supported, would be the Corefix fixing. How much' is always the question, which is answered in part by 'how fragile is the thing you are hanging on it? Not what you want when your kitchen wall unit is full of your best crockery – a gift from the mother in law! Corefix is not suitable for Stud Walls because there is no solid wall behind the plasterboard for Corefix to attach to. Of course, other frame fixings will claim to perform the same role but unlike these inferior plastic versions, Corefix has a steel core which transfers the load from the plasterboard to the solid blockwork or masonry material behind the plasterboard.
