About this deal

On one hand, that says something pretty significant about the ER2SE’s sound quality; on the other, it means that some people will be stuck looking for replacement eartips. Clearly, the 4XR is superior and we can actually see how sheer speed helps in bringing out all the micro details. I used the brown 1500 Ohm filter and it makes ER2XR a better in ears: bass level is touch lower with better definition, improved macro details without affecting the enjoyment of listening to ER2XR.

It has taken me awhile to get this impressions out due to work and business travel, but I have been able to sit down finally and get this impressions out. It has better value than the ER3SE because it sounds 90% the same, without the BA timbre due to it using a speedy, dynamic driver. gixxerwimp mentioned that these appear to have a W-shaped profile and I really think that's the best way to describe it; per my ears midrange has a thinner skew and the bass sounds drier than what I consider to be "proper", not to mention there's some needling around the mid/upper treble. Even without looking I can just about feel for the raised letter nubs and get them in the right ears , but that takes a few seconds so I usually just end up looking for the indicators anyway. Sure, the fit of the earbuds looks silly but it’s a signature Etymotic thing and could be considered charming by some.I have heard many IEMs at trade shows, regularly hear all the CFA universal offerings (UA deals Campfire), own Tia Fourte (don't listen to them and won them in a raffle for free), modded IMR R1 ('fake but fun'), Periodic Be ('fake but fun' redux), Aurisonic Rockets (my 'reference'), and FDX1.

To my ears, Etymotic’s sound is defined first and foremost by notably neutral tonal balance in the SE (Studio Edition) models or by mostly neutral balance with audible but not overblown levels of added bass lift in the XR (Extended Range) models. The ER2SEs play in a (slightly) narrower stage, and yet have similar or even more breathing space between the details. They have recorded the highest noise isolation capacity compared to other earphones, with 35 dB to 42 dB of noise isolation. Using a single dynamic driver allows for a very accurate IEM without the added complexity of crossovers and helps keep the aluminium body small and slim. These earphones/IEMs allow you to listen to your favourite track or block out the world for a focused podcast listening experience.First, as a long-term user of Etymotic ER•4p-series earphones, I was struck by the strong sonic family resemblance between the classic ER•4p’s and the new and far more affordable ER2-series earphones. Legacy 3 is slightly rolled off in the treble in my opinion, which makes for a weird frequency response to me.

Tuned in the same neutral house signature, the dynamic drivers in ER2SE give us a little peek into the character and nature of the moving coil dynamic driver. And yes, I have tried switching cables, trying different cables but the issues is clearly in the unit itself. The housing was way too large, and would create a complete seal in my ear from being pushed in and would create a weird suction in my ear.
