Seasonably cold with temperatures somewhere between -10 and + 5 centigrade, is healthy for the garden and makes life easier for us gardeners. In my opinion, it isn’t a book to turn to for quick reference or if you’re looking for lists of tasks to do but then it wasn’t designed with this in mind and most gardeners have those books already anyway.

Following the cycle of the seasons, this book introduces readers to the garden from the earliest snowdrops of January through the first splashes of colour in the spring, the electric summer displays of the jewel garden, the autumn harvest in the orchard, and on to a Christmas feast sourced from the vegetable gardens. I would certainly recommend this book, Monty’s enthusiasm is infectious and you don’t need to watch Gardeners’ World to find this book useful and a good read.
