About this deal

Corsair iCUE companion software provides a number equalizer presets to choose from, namely Pure Direct (Flat), Movie Theater, FPS Competition, Clear Chat, and Bass Boost. The app offers a 10-band EQ for personalizing the HS65 Wireless’ sound profile, as well as EQ presets for different kinds of activities. You still get Dolby Surround and SoundID options like the HS65 Surround, but the wireless version comes with an inferior mic, and a bloated bass-heavy sound profile that makes the overall audio appear to be quite muffled.

However, during testing, it seems to only last about four days, with about two to four hours of use per day, which certainly doesn’t tally up to Corsair’s rating. At this moment it gives me a slightly claustrophobic and disoriented feeling that I have to take it off when to many things ingame are happening, because I don't even know where all the sounds are coming from and the sounds don't sound to crisp. After setting up – and ultimately abandoning – my SoundID profile, I opted for the standard Dolby Audio surround experience on PC. Some of that is down to PC settings getting in the way, but Corsair HS65 Wireless needs a little monkeying around with on Discord before it sounds exactly how you like it, certification be damned. In fact, the headset does seem to have built-in sound presets with similar functionality (triggered by pressing on the volume wheel) but they do not make any difference to the audio whatsoever.

Still, just because its audio quality isn’t as good or as balanced, that doesn’t take away from the fact that the Corsair HS65 Wireless is a pretty good gaming headset in its own right, particularly due to its immersive soundstage and the 10-band EQ on iCue, and is worth taking a look at. The default sound profile is just okay, and shouldn’t impede your gaming too much on other platforms, but PC gamers will benefit the most from this headset given the ability to choose EQ it. It doesn’t matter how good the audio is if a headset makes you want to rip it off after a half hour. Captures your voice with terrific clarity thanks to an omni-directional microphone with a flip-to-mute function, Discord Certified for crystal-clear communication and outstanding sound.

The microphone on the HS65 Wireless is usable for in-game chat, but I wouldn’t expect utmost clarity out of it for your voice. The Corsair HS65 Surround stands up well against competitors like the Razer Kraken V3 Hypersense and the HyperX Cloud Alpha.

It was as if someone turned on the bass up to the maximum, drowning out the cries of the vocals and instruments as they got lost in the flubbery mess of it all. C. with the Corsair HS65 SURROUND, the hi-hats and snare come through more than they usually do, even more so than the bass line, which is also loud due to the bass frequency boost the headset lends. Corsair also loaded the headband with a wide strip of cushion that does a great job evenly distributing the weight of the headset. With the HS Surround, you can plug in and at the very least get crystal clear stereo audio, even if you have to skip the surround sound feature. Custom-tuned 50mm neodymium audio drivers deliver great sound quality and range, and plush leatherette memory foam ear pads provide a comfortable fit through hours of gameplay.

The Astro A30 is yet another proof that a new breed of gaming headsets is taking over – one that sounds great, looks great, and is versatile enough to be used at and away from your desk. The Corsair HS65 Surround uses Corsair’s iCue software – the same software the brand uses for most of its gaming peripherals – and it’s as straightforward and sound-focused as ever. The ear pads and the head cushion both feature soft and comfortable memory foam underneath breathable leatherette material. This is largely because of its default sound profile which is extremely bass-heavy and overpowers most of the other frequency ranges. These options aren't high on the list of necessities with gamers, so why pay more for options you don’t need?
