About this deal

While there aren't much in the way of DMR repeaters in my area, I'm sure this radio will do nicely when in range of one. The competitors to this radio also suffer from their own problems, so you have to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of each one, and decide on what fits you best.

Some systems have advanced 24/7 logging and just keying up a couple of times on a repeater on a unused talkgroup with a unknown radio ID while the place is closed is enough to alert someone in the morning that there has been an intruder! If a manufacturer would like to announce or raise awareness for their product eHam suggests writing a brief News release and submit it to eHam's News. I didn't take the engineer's advice to change the TX settings to None because I access a simulcast system that transmits on one FM frequency to three repeaters in separate locations that differ by their assigned CTCSS code. Besides other issues I had with this radio (and even the tune tool will not improve the BER and somebody else is reporting terrible BER with DM1701 hotspot in this forum) I would strongly suggest this new version is just a waste of money. Analog and Digital Combination: Supports both analog and digital modes, offering versatility and compatibility with different communication systems.

Please, don’t try to use this or any of the other cheap Chinese radios aimed at amateur radio operators for anything mission critical. To build the largest and most complete Amateur Radio community site on the Internet - a "portal" that hams think of as the first place to go for information, to exchange ideas, and be part of what’s happening with ham radio on the Internet. Of course it could be that the firmware uses 0x29 and (0x29+1) thus making it hard to find where in the binary is setting the frequency. The CPS is not intuitive and it's hard to find good instructions on how to get a good code plug made. I bought two of these to use to scan my local law enforcement frequencies and also use as a communication method with other people like my employees as I do hold an Industrial Business Pool license to operate these in the business band and the fact that these are also FCC certified for that given that you set it up correctly.

The Radio comes with a very well written manual and is well laid out, the radio is very straightforward to use so I didn’t find I needed to refer to it. The first one I’m going to mention is that this radio has a proper frequency mode where you can spin the channel selector or type in a frequency and start using it straight away. Another question people asked me about this radio is whether it’s a proper real DMR radio, and not a cheap Chinese knock off like the DM-5R. I’ve made detailed videos on both of these topics, which you’ll find in my series playlist for the HD1.
