About this deal

He has a dream and this time he’s not going to let anyone stop him achieving it, not even that inner voice that tells him maybe he’s just not good enough. Society tends to tell us more about what we can't do, or what we shouldn't do, and overcoming this sort of conditioning is no easy feat. From here, Ted goes on a journey of self discovery, as although he is grieving for Giles, he is now able to be himself, and be true to who his character really is.

With the help of Marina, Denise, and octogenarian flamboyant Stanley, will life's new route be built on pride or will Ted and Oskar flounder by the wayside? But with the main character being in his 40s, it's extremely refreshing that we're not just hearing from 18 year olds on the subject. Ted's growth as a person, recognizing his true worth, seeing the glimpses of his life showered in mistakes that he hid behind and eventually shedding that cover - and embracing the power to be proud of who you are. You can be the ripest peach on the tree, yet there will still be some people who don't like peaches.Ted and his husband Giles separate and it starts a shift in Ted, he realizes he has to find out who he REALLY is, without a husband. Which said, there's plenty of people who don't read in that way, and those people will roll around in a lovely story of middle-aged queer joy and self-acceptance with immense pleasure. When he applies this compassion to himself, along with some coaxing from his friend Denise and his new loving partner, he becomes who he was always meant to be.

Ted’s boyfriend of 20 years breaks up with him and Ted goes on a journey of self discovery that includes becoming a drag Queen, shattering family expectations, and finding new love. At forty-three, Ted Ainsworth feels incredibly lucky to be married to enthralling, charismatic Giles, so when, after twenty years together, Giles says it’s over, Ted is understandably devastated. What follows is a story of reinvention from the shadows of his controlling husband Giles, and the pressures from his family to run the family ice cream business. The dialogue shared by the characters is fluid and realistic, and the hilarious, observational humour and laugh-out-loud one-liners throughout the book are pure comedy gold. But it's not easy to stand up for yourself when, for your whole life, you've been made to feel as though you shouldn't fully be yourself; when in fact, you've been shamed for trying to be your true self. He is rather a complex character, struggling with his sexuality against the background of family history and the social politics of his native country which have caused so much heartache. I do not think this writing style is necessarily bad, as I did eventually get used to it, but it’s… strange, and made me feel like I wasn’t reading a book.

Despite his parents, the disapproval of locals - and a series of mysterious letters that may threaten the happiness of Ted's nearest and dearest . Emotional abuse, infidelity, friendships, marriage breakdowns and parental pressure, along with the issue of how sadly homophobia is still prevalent in some countries, play huge roles within Ted’s story. Now, this is not inherently a bad thing — and most of these alternatives carry a specific meaning that enhances the understanding of the character’s emotions and actions during a scene.

everyone will relate to Ted' La Voix 'A life-affirming story about one man's journey to be true to himself' Fanny Blake 'So moving and so much fun. Quick fire shout out to these other great characters: Alison, Marina, Mick, Peg Legge, Pussy Squat, Mick and Andrzej too. First and foremost, thank you NetGalley and John Scognamiglio Books / Kensington Books for the Advance Readers Copy. His best friend, the flamboyant Andrea, is determined to help Ted - she hasn't forgotten that he once helped her through her worst time.
