About this deal

In the end this is full of energy, catchy lyrics and melodies, and enough substance to make it great. She sounds fairly similar to Wessels, which I'm guessing will evolve on future albums, but she has the range and tonal quality to pull off these songs effortlessly.

While not their finest hour, the very existence of Dark Waters – and the fact that it doesn’t suck – is a marvel, and live shows will hopefully rekindle their fanbase’s once rabid loyalty. Before I thought delain sounded like a second version of nightwish while just changing the vocal style, but I feel that they have really found their "sound" now. Before this album I always thought they sounded much like old school nightwish with a more contemporary sounding singer.

That brings the quality down slightly, but is still recommended for those who may be skeptical of a Wessels-less Delain. Songs like the soaring previously released standalone single, “The Quest and the Curse”, as well as “The Cold” (the latter featuring a real, epic choir), lure with a bombastic sound that skillfully combines orchestral melodies, epic heavy riffs and marvelous vocal performances. That's contrasted by "The Quest and the Curse," a heavier and moderately paced track with harsh vocals and choirs balancing Leah's ethereal singing. The biggest obstacle for me to overcome going into Dark Waters was the new vocalist, but I was pleasantly surprised.

DELAIN’s renowned orchestral arrangements, highlighted by modern shadings, set new standards and manifest the five-piece on top of the scene. DELAIN's renowned orchestral arrangements, highlighted by modern shadings, set new standards and manifest the five-piece on top of the scene. The first two songs to emerge – The Quest And The Curse, and Beneath – were and are hugely impressive, cementing what appeared to be a comeback few would have predicted. There are a few occasions where the music has more elements of the old Within Temptation in his keyboard sounds - no bad thing - and the album is very well produced, a big epic sounding record, and a very pleasant surprise! really good, but for me a "masterpiece" has multiple songwriting element, which this is all energy and catchiness throughout the album. After initially considering making it a project with rotating members, he decided to rebuild the lineup. Pop-induced opening track “Hideaway Paradise” shows exactly that by inducing a dream-like feeling flirting with melodic metal guitars, while the ballad-like dark track “Mirror of Night”, featuring Within Temptation guitarist Ruud Jolie, entices the listener with unfathomably catchy lines and melodies. Rejoining the fold and bolstering DELAIN’s continuity are original guitarist Ronald Landa and original drummer Sander Zoer, while new members - terrific vocalist Diana Leah and bassist Ludovico Cioffi - continue to evolve their sound. Similar to Xandria's line-up issues, I also had worries that Delain will no longer be one of my favourite female fronted metal bands after Charlotte Wessels was out as her voice is so charming with high recognition value. With some former members in tow, Martijn has recreated the sound of before, new vocalist Diana sounds similar to Charlotte and the album is packed full of great tunes.

After their shock dissolution, especially the loss of the very talented and face of the band Charlotte Wessels, it seemed like there would be no way back for Delain but here they are! A sonic rollercoaster ride of catchy tunes with explosive elements - ranging from pop to film score-inspired to blistering metal - merge perfectly with Diana's fantastic voice, showcasing her incredible talent and musical sophistication. Simultaneously on the same day of the single's release, the band announced the title of their upcoming seventh studio album, Dark Waters, with a release date of 10 February 2023. What we have here are many elements of symphonic metal married with 80s sounds that are catchy as anything that comes out these days.

Emerging as a brand new start and safe haven alike, Dark Waters, without any doubt, continues the legacy of this multi-million-streamed leading symphonic metal outfit and contains everything DELAIN is loved for and more. Tainted Hearts” is centered around Westerholt's keyboard arrangements, which skillfully showcase the creative roots of the mastermind.
