About this deal

There was barely any romance in this honestly like it wasn’t a huge focus, which I’m totally fine with since all this sets it up for the next book anyways. Trading Address (Warehouse) Unit E, Vulcan Business Complex, Vulcan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE5 3EB. My main critique of GILD was that I felt there wasn’t a lot of movement, despite a lot of events happening, because the story spends large swaths of time in a couple of main locations. The way he’s portrayed as a big bad villain, but was actually respectful and even kinda sweet, and the way he questioned and pushed Auren even though she didn’t like it, just so she could realize exactly how badly Midas treated her, and how much more she could be. This book is mostly Auren travelling with Rip and his army towards the feared King Rot of the Fourth Kingdom and wondering how she might escape being handed over to him.

So I’m curious, but I’m hoping they don’t wind up used in smutty scenes as I’m not about tentacle porn… That’s a big nope from me. I kept waiting for this book to build from the previous book but it was happening at much too slow of a rate. No- she has so much higher to rise, I am TELLING you, and seeing how she is so strong for others through everything…. A bit better than the first book, because Auren is not in the palace anymore, there are other interesting side characters, less Midas and more Commander Rip, but Auren was still too annoying for me to really enjoy it. Auren faces multiple journeys, one of course being physical with the army traveling across the frozen tundra of the land, the journey of gaining her sense of confidence and freedom, her slowly developing feelings for Commander Rip as he shows her respect and allows her to grow at her own pace and slowly reveals to her the manipulation that Midas had infected her mind with over the last decade she’s been the golden kings beloved. The Commander's Army is a delightful compilation of the most badass and most hilarious soldiers he could find. Rip, the mysterious and intimidating Commander of the army, more directly incites Auren’s journey of self-awareness. A Liaison Officer spends long shifts in the family home, keeping them informed of the progress of the police enquiry.

I was looking forward to Auren's journey, especially knowing that she is a victim groomed to be nothing but a gilded prisoner who believed for so long that her golden cage is where she will always be safe. Add it: Goodreads Goodreads Summary: For ten years, I’ve lived in a gilded cage inside King Midas’s golden castle. Though keep in mind that it's really slow and the first book was really more like a prequel to set up everything.I don't like to say much about the actual plot of this series because my favourite thing about it is that it completely subverted any expectations that I had going in and I want you to have the same experience. Like the first book, she keeps me hooked and I whenever I pause reading I'm always eager to go back and continue where I left off. I am dead serious when I tell you that I literally had never even HEARD of this book or this author before I accidentally stumbled onto it when I was trying to figure out the name of a totally different book series.
