About this deal

The Michter's range of US*1 Whiskies offer a truly delicious insight into the long history of the company, and indeed American Whiskey production. Crafted using only the finest ingredients and traditional, costly techniques, there's a rich yet mellow character to these gorgeous whiskeys, which are hard to match for sheer enjoyability. Every bottle comes from a single fire-charred, new American white oak barrel, ensuring the highest quality from every limited batch. This rye whiskey is an old “Kentucky style” of rye that utilises a higher percentage of corn in the mash bill.

Renowned for rye – America’s oldest whiskey variety – since the earliest days of our history, Michter’s take the production of US1 Kentucky Straight Rye extremely seriously. Ideal neat or in cocktails, every bottle comes from a single barrel – a unique attribute reflecting our extraordinary commitment to offering Kentucky Straight Rye whiskey of the absolute highest quality at every level of the Michter’s range. We'll send them to be recycled and you'll save paper, carbon emissions and time at the recycling centre! Moreover, rather than use the one size fits all approach of many distillers, Michter’s use the different filtration mediums and techniques best suited to each of their individual whiskey offerings – despite it being time consuming and costly – to highlight each expression’s best qualities. Product of one barrel of exceptionally produced rye whiskey that utilises only the finest ingredients and traditional techniques.Every bottle comes from a single barrel, reflecting Michter's extraordinary commitment to offering Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey of the absolute highest quality.

This is my Second favorite rye on the market; Bold, yet crisp with a remarkable finish and flavour profile. After a nearly three year absence from the market, Master Distiller Willie Pratt finally gave the green light for the re-release of Michter’s 10 Year Straight Rye in April 2014. Named to honour Michter’s heritage harkening back to America's first whiskey company, founded in 1753. You can expect notes of sweet toffee, cherries and subtle spice leading into a creamy finish with a beautifully dry, oaky finish. Also sign me up for newsletters so I can get special offers, recommendations, and expert advice to my inbox!

Each barrel of rye is selected by Michter’s Master of Maturation when it reaches maturity, usually between five and eight years. Often significantly older than the age statement on the label, only a select few barrels age with the elegance required for inclusion in these highly limited releases. Michter’s Kentucky Straight Rye is made from select American Rye grain that is sheared to maximise the extraction of flavour from the grain. Michter's more recent history, however, really begins in the 1990s when two men sought to revive the much loved (but sadly declined) brand down in Kentucky, the heartland of American Whiskey. Peppery on the nose, with elements of citrus and butterscotch, this one’s the perfect cocktail ingredient, though it goes down just as smooth neat with a little ice. It's made from select American rye grain that is sheared to maximize the extraction of flavor from the grain. The US 1 expressions, so named to honor Michter’s heritage harkening back to America’s first whiskey company, consist of some of the finest single barrel and truly small batch whiskeys available. Tasting Notes: Fresh and approachable with a touch of mintiness to help balance the aromatic spices thus typical of rye. Michter’s 10 year old single barrel Kentucky straight rye continues the legacy of America’s first whiskey variety (rye) company (Michter’s, originally known as Shenk’s).
