Scotland is not unique with its biting beasties population but, certainly, many people will have heard of the fierce Scottish midge. Bike along the Danube Cycle Path and follow the river for much of its length through Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary. They also sell a midge-proof hair net, but we didn’t see enough midges to require using it – sexy though it is. Well, I decided t take the opportunity to approach a number of manufacturers of midge repellents, take them all on holiday and get our group of 6 to give them a test. The midges for me were at worst a mild irritation, we didn’t come across any black swarms of midges and believe this to be down to the hot dry weather.

This repellent is sweat and splash resistant, and can be used on children age 2+ years and pregnant women. I am very happy with this product and will make sure I keep a plentiful supply of this and maybe won't need so many antihistamine pills in future! The midges weren’t anywhere near as bad as I was anticipating, we didn’t need to use the midge nets that had been sent to us by both Smidge and Pyramid. My sister was given a bottle by a kind lady who wanted me to try it on my holiday and give back some info.
