I have to admit, after receiving the crop of 2022 Ninjago review sets, 71767 Ninja Dojo Temple was the one that hyped me up the least - I’m just not a dollhouse-style playset kind of AFOL - however, it ended up convincing me. We have plenty of weapon storage around, which seems appropriate, and a small shrine to Sensei Wu, which seems to be less so since he’s still very much around.

The ask was to create a new "hub" for the ninja from where they could venture out to the different adventures depicted on the other sets of the line. You also didn't dwell much on stickers (understandably, given New Elementary's general area of focus), but one thing I greatly appreciate is this is one of the first non-D2C sets in a little while to include a stickered tile representing a 2011 Ninjago trading card! I still think the Kai mech is the most fun portion of this affair, since I’m just irreparable like that, but the Dojo itself is a very solid design sprinkled with some interesting techniques and plenty of play value.The bridge to the training island looks good, and there are plenty of little details to catch your eye when looking at the façade. In a crate next to the bridge, we find blue power blast pieces, with which the water ninja can knock off loosely placed flame pieces from atop poles. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. There’s also a light nougat spider lurking under those stairs, which is nearly invisible in the completed build. Sure, in terms of new parts and recolors it doesn't have a ton to offer, but it might be one of my favorite ninja bases yet in how well it blends the more modern/sci-fi tech side of the theme with the sort of traditional Japan-inspired architecture that the theme is also great with.

Nya uses mini shooters in this set, symbolizing her Water powers, just as she did in the sets for Season 14. New for January 2022, when kids defeat the ninja enemies and complete their mission they are rewarded with a collectable banner. There are two chest-plates in red and metallic black, and new single-piece “locked hinges” in orange.

In terms of parts, it isn’t particularly groundbreaking - again, the best bits come from the EVO-based mech - but that has its merits: the designer created a compelling and great looking set without using a lot of new elements that would make me want to dismantle it for MOC fodder. One arch in the set may feature a familiar design that was also present as a side entrance in 71767 Ninja Dojo Temple. LEGO® NINJAGO® toys offer a fantastic way for kids to step away from their screens and immerse themselves in a mystical world of fantasy action.
