Harry Potter Film Wizardry is a book by Brian Sibley that relays a comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Harry Potter film series. I live in London with my life partner, a professional magician, in a house overcrowded with so many books, DVDs and CDs (not to mention all those old videos and gramophone records! The book is really nicely laid out, with many pages in the style of the Daily Prophet, or other designers notebooks. There are many mini interviews with cast members, directors, and others involved in the making of the films, and most of them had very interesting things to say. One small quibble: I do hope the publishers will re-print a revised edition of this to include information from Part II of The Deathly Hallows.
My assistant Nisha came into my office to recommend an unpublished manuscript by a first-time novelist that she had enjoyed. Well, this book has an great insight on the special effects of the Harry Potter movies, explanations on how each movie was filmed and how the ideas came to the muggles who created the film series. The graphic artists who designed the films and their contents also designed this book, and they did a fabulous job, with both endeavors. Actors and directors reveal their secrets, reveal film tricks, show previously unpublished photos and tell all kinds of stories about the shooting. Normally I don’t elaborate on products or production based book, but this one is good enough to do just that.
