About this deal

Sporting a 15-litre capacity, this air-fryer from Proscenic is among some of the largest models we've tested – making it ideal for a household of four or five. We found the browning to be a little inconsistent when air-frying salmon and chicken breasts, and our aubergine – while flavoursome – lacked the restaurant-style grill marks we were hoping for. Despite its large footprint and some initial difficulty with the match and sync functions, which allow you to finish cooking different foods at the same time, we were able to master the controls fairly quickly. But for the purpose of the test, we shook ingredients only when prompted too and scored the appliance based on its performance. Rotisserie air-fryers: these are designed to produce evenly browned but moist cooked chickens, roasted much quicker than in the oven.

Fruit leather is an excellent way to make the most of a dehydrate function if you have a hand blender, blender or food processor at home, or for an umami-kick try dehydrating tomatoes or mushrooms. Taste of Home Air-Fryer MeatballsThese meatballs are fantastic, but the real star of the show is the sweet-and-spicy sauce. It’s easiest to make these with chicken tenders, but you can substitute chicken breasts cut into 1-inch strips if you can’t find them.Discover our collection of air-fryer recipes for a bit of inspiration for veggies and air-fried chicken. It doesn’t produce the crispiness of my top choice of air fryer, but it does cook very quickly and evenly – 20 minutes for chips or sweet potato fries and just six minutes for vegetables. But both the preset times and temperatures are higher and longer than they need to be, so we recommend reducing the cooking time and temperatures slightly to avoid any overcooking or burning. Our second recommendation from Canadian brand Instant is a combination of two of the most popular kitchen gadgets out there – an air fryer and a pressure cooker – in a single beast of an appliance.

It comes with an LED digital display so you can monitor the temperature and cooking times and illustrates its pre-set modes as icons: a drumstick for poultry, a cupcake for baked goods, a steak for meat and so on. We looked at how evenly they ‘fried’ and whether they were brown and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. This helps ensure the food cooks evenly and makes it easy to lift out of the air fryer once it's ready. Most air-fryer models are small enough to keep out on your worktop (depending on the size of your kitchen), with others offering space-saving features, such as cord storage.Much like other Ninja products we've tried, we were impressed with the packaging which was largely cardboard and paper with very little plastic. Whether you want to upgrade to a newer model, or your air-fryer has reached the end of its life, knowing how and where to dispose of your appliance is important to avoid creating more e-waste.

Things you should avoid putting in your air fryer include fresh greens, cheese and any food covered in wet batter. A meal cooked for an hour in a typical 2,000 Watt electric oven would use two kiloWatt hours of energy – but if you could cook the same meal in half an hour in a 1,000 Watt air fryer, it would use just half a kiloWatt hour. This is a fairly uncommon feature and products with smart capabilities that we've tested have come and gone from the market. Sometimes they come with a stirring paddle, though we’ve found this doesn't always make for better results.Top tip: Watch out for those that will require you to part-boil the cut potatoes prior to crisping – air-fryers worth having should be able to fully cook chips on their own. A heating component heats air, which is circulated by a powerful fan around the food to cook it and produce a ‘frying’ effect with minimal oil. According to Cosori, what sets it apart from previous models is its high-speed motor and new air-duct solution, which translates to it being up to 46% faster than the Cosori Pro.

One of the standard criticisms of air fryers is that they’re too big and unfortunately, this is a classic example.Read more about the most popular air fryer brands or see Ninja Foodi vs Tower air fryer vs Tefal ActiFry. All other things being equal, it is still cheaper to cook with gas, which at the time of writing cost 7p per kiloWatt hour, although the size and age of your gas oven may make still make it less efficient than the best modern air fryers. It is pretty bulky and wants putting away when not in use, but it’s the second cheapest on this list and it’s a worthy investment. As well as chicken and chips, other popular choices include potatoes, roasted vegetables, falafel, fish, pizza and even baked goods such as cookies and cakes. As medium-capacity air-fryers go, this model from Tefal is impressively slimline with an attractive stainless steel body and brushed plastic base.
