About this deal

The Verlaque and Bonnet mystery novels are, now that I think about it, more about Provence and its culture, history and wines than it is about the mystery. The prospective recipients and others close to Moutte make up a long list of suspects, but Verlaque isn't convinced any of the eager students or desperate teachers are capable of murder, and he must dig deeper. A page-turning mysterythat transports you to the south of France with its lush portrait of a charming historic town, this continuation of theProven al Mystery series captivates. With deftly shifting points of view, Longworth creates a beguiling read that will appeal to Louise Penny and Donna Leon fans. Furthermore, a suspect with Church connections would have made a very worthwhile and entertaining addition to the mix of potential wrong-doers (and motives), an opportunity lost through bad preparation.

Moette has announced his intention to retire and is all set to name his successor as well as name the graduate student recipient of an elite fellowship tied to the Dumas funds. So why the blazes does the text include various bits of random French , such as bonjour or merci, etc, basic 4th grade French words that everyone understands?

Professor Moutte, the Doyen of the School of Theology at the University of Aix, is found murdered in his office.

This is the second novel in Longworth's detective series, but it is not necessary to have read the first to slip easily into the action of this one. I have been lucky enough in my quarter century of life to do some traveling abroad, and one of the places I have been to is Aix in Provence. Murder in the Rue Dumas” is more on the cozy end of the genre, but what a delightful place it holds. Marine is dating Antoine again, but his behavior continues to unsettle the relationship despite their acknowledgment of their love for one another.

The director was about to announce the recipient of a fellowship and also his successor as director which includes quite a perk: the beautiful apartment in the 17th century mansion. If you have never been to France (or Italy), Longworth’s descriptions of the places visited by the cast of characters will make you want to visit them yourself. Despite mysteries not being my favorite genre, I read this one right on the heels of the prequel to Luther.

Suggestion for editors: If a book is based in France, find an audiobook reader who is at least slightly acquainted with the language. M L Longworth sounds great fun – here’s some background on her if you want to know more: http://mllongworth. I was going to say that I thought Judge Verlaque as something of a cross between George Simenon's Maigret and Colin Dexters Morse but as I am getting to know him better, I am seeing a bit of Jean-Luc Bannelec's Commissaire Dupin in the mix too. Several characters describe her as beautiful, and a great deal of energy is spent making sure we know she's good looking. The differences in the Catholic Church in France were also explored (or exploded) as part of the plot.

Verlaque is assisted by Paulik in interrogating faculty members, students, and those in attendance at a party the night before. Most of the large cast of characters work in academia, so there's quite a bit of theological or otherwise very intelligent discussion. Pakuję się, gdy rozmawiamy"), bohaterkę, która "sugerowała, by jej rodzice poszukali terapii" (seek therapy) i wiele, wiele innych. His position included deluxe rent-free housing in the best part of Aix-en-Provence in addition to other benefits. The second book in this series continues to develop the characters of Antoine Verlaques's investigative team and their collegial relationship in Aix-en-Provence, sometimes shining a light on the differences in their upbringing and personal lives.
