Sometimes the first book in a series can suffer from a bit of a slow start as the characters are introduced but I found The Secret Key got the balance just right, there are two relatively short chapters that introduce Agatha and then you’re thrown straight into the action and the adventure barely stops until you reach the conclusion.It opens readily with my key and I step through on to the welcome mat that protects a plush red carpet. The books show that having someone to rely on and share experiences with is essential, especially when facing difficult challenges. Inside, the ‘little old lady’ (her own words, which really don’t do her justice) looks up from a document on her desk and raises her eyebrows. With a fun plot, and great characters it’s a fantastic adventurous mystery for younger children and a fun quick read for us adults!
