It's a great start to a new series and I'm already looking forward to the second book that is coming out this year in September! The illustrations are marvellous (I read an arc, so not all of them were included but those that were were gorgeous) and though I liked all the Smith and O'Hero siblings, I do admit Annipeck stole the show with her sheer, hilarious brazenness. Then (picturing this in theatre) the entire cast hurts themselves back stage and then random people from the street take there roles. This is not a standard magic caste system, but there didn’t appear to be any consequences on the user once they had used their gift.The jungle world felt very scary and dangerous, and the ambiguous nature of many of the supporting characters was fun and kept me guessing.
