About this deal

They offer several different sizes and they are all slightly different in terms of accessories and gear attachment points. The 100-denier high-tenacity pack fabric used throughout withstands significant abuse, yet is lighter than other fabrics, keeping the Speed Lite’s overall weight low. I’ve also carried up to 25 pounds comfortably in it while hiking, and yet the frame is still flexible enough to bend in half, making it very packable.

On the top of the pack is a small zippered stash pocket for items like phones or wallets, and it also includes a key clip, so you never have to worry about losing your keys while stopping for a snack. None the less the Speed Lite provides great carrying comfort and pleasant ventilation for athletic tours or alpine adventures in challenging terrain thanks to its new Lite Air contact back system. If you are inclined to take one of those big tartan flasks for your tea then this is definitely not for you. It has two mesh water bottle pockets (lower compression strap covers the pockets) and a non-stretchy front panel pocket that is adjustable via two compression straps.

At the smaller end of the scale there's the running-oriented Ascender, a model we'll also be reviewing this summer. Weighing well under two pounds—low for a pack with this much capacity—it’s marketed as an ultralight, all-around daypack for long trail days, technical rock climbing, and even snow climbing.

A Delrin perimeter frame keeps loads up to 20 pounds manageable even during aggressive motions, and the well-ventilated back panel limits moisture and heat buildup. If you're going light and compact then I think a zip is more attractive, and as a fan of longer days in wilder places, which generally require a bit more stuff (not to mention the camera equipment required of a gear reviewer) I went for the largest zip-entry model, the Speed Lite 25 (women's equivalent is the Speed Lite 23 SL). We'll see about the long-term durability, but given how well it's made I have a feeling its built to last. Side compression straps come next, pulling these tight does two things: firstly, it stabilises the load, secondly it can lift the lower part of the pack, repositioning the load closer to your back. com/Imagestorage/imagesSynchro/0/0/33b4366365354ff4830b798adfb9a404cf7f928c_H19DEUTACC7865437_DEUT0493442_1.

It’s more like a good cragging pack for someone with a partner who’s carrying the big pack with the rope and much of the climbing gear inside. Sometimes adjustments will need to be made on the go depending on the terrain or the load you are carrying.

Finally, I found that the mesh and perforated-foam back panel does a pretty good job of wicking sweat and allowing airflow, similar to other packs with those materials and a body-hugging design. Tighten them until you feel the top part of the pack rest against your pack, over tightening them will create excessive pressure on the front of your shoulders.Lite System: These lightweight backpacks come into their own during endurance sports and Alpine day treks. The Speed Light 24 SL has a tapered athletic V shape, this offers freedom of movement that won't get in the way during active outdoor activities. With a logo reflector and a clip loop on the back for a bike light, the pack ensures you’ll be seen well into the night. This coating will be able to manage a light rain, but if you are headed into the Pacific Northwest where a sunny day could become a monsoon in minutes, it may be worth investing in a waterproof pack cover.

The Deuter Speed Lite 24 pack is a bit more than a simple rucksack and maintains useful features for quick and active pursuits. With that said, if you find our review helpful and decide to purchase an item we review, we would be very appreciative if you use our links to do so. Lightweight and durable the Speed Lite 24 SL is the perfect companion for all kinds of outdoor pursuits like trekking, hiking and equally versatile for an approach to the crag or a winter tour. I used my arms and torso a lot with trekking poles out of necessity, and the pack never hindered even the most drastic movements. The broad running vest-style shoulder straps and hip belt hug the body, giving a close and comfy fit with minimal bounce when you're jogging along. The key to this lightweight design is the backsystem and hipbelt; unlike a lot of packs which feature a rigid, heavy design, the Speed Lite is about as minimalist as it gets, with lightweight foam and a layer of mesh used to give you the highest level of breathability in a pack which you can take travelling, trekking and mountaineering without sacrifice. Ice axe and trekking pole loops, a sternum strap and top lid attachment points make it easy to carry your essential accessories to make your walk enjoyable and accessible. The main pocket opens with two (almost) full length zippers and swallows more gear than I'd anticipated. On the back of the pack is a stretch mesh pocket that could hold a raincoat for easy storage or access if the forecast is looking grim. The U-shaped frame with adjustable chest strap and padded lumbar belt allows for maximum freedom of movement and weight distribution.
