I think this would be interesting to share with children and see who they recognise and what they can spot in the pictures. This much-loved rhyme lets children spot all their favourite nursery-rhyme characters in Janet Ahlberg’s charming, jewel-like pictures, which are packed with familiar details of domestic life. The subject of the previous I-spy then launches the next - ie: "Tom Thumb in the cupboard / I spy Mother Hubbard" - with the process ongoing, until the natural (and very fun!

The one slight downside of the board book is it’s quality; the front page isn’t cushioned, like some other board books, and when my daughter has chewed the book in inevitable teething phases, the paper has become slightly damaged - in fact she did end up with some paper in her mouth. Classic characters like Burglar Bill and The Jolly Postman have become firm favourites with a generation of children who are now reading them to their own offspring. Many of his books were collaborations with his wife, Janet, an illustrator, and they quickly became one of Britain’s leading author/illustrator teams. The ditch in which Jack and Jill lie – and into which the Wicked Witch is peering, is surely modelled on the Berlin Wall, while in the very next picture, Robin Hood is shown firing long-range missiles at the Witch.Absolutely adore this classic from my childhood, I purchased this for my little boy, fantastic pocket size for when you're travelling with your little one and seeking a form of entertainment, very practical! From the three bears to Robin Hood, little ones and grown ups can have a fantastic story time playing "I spy" looking for familiar fairy tale characters and following the brilliant rhyming text. However, I must confess that when I read 'Tom Thumb in the cupboard/I spy Mother Hubbard', I didn't espy her at first!

You have to look carefully when looking for the characters, althought I have read the book endless times I always find it difficult to find The Three Bears! Each Peach Pear Plum / I spy Tom Thumb," the text begins, inviting the reader to find Tom Thumb in the artwork. First, I read this to my child, pausing before pointing out the next character, who would be hiding in the picture somewhere.
