About this deal

Malorie has also been awarded the Children's Book Award and the Eleanor Farjeon Award as well as an OBE for her services to children's literature. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! So with a little bit of magic and some help from Jolly the cat, Grandma's going to make sure that Ellie changes her ways. Her best-loved books include the highly acclaimed Noughts and Crosses sequence and Pig Heart Boy, which also became a major BBC TV series.

grndma notices how devious she can be towards her pet cat 'Jolly' so she decides to teach Ellie a lesson she won't forget! In a dyslexia-friendly format, this is a magical and gently comic tale of friendship and thinking of others. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally).I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. Malorie Blackman, illustrated by Matt Robertson Ellie is not happy to be staying with her grandmother.

Ellie is the rudest, most spoilt child her grandma has ever met and it’s time that she learnt a lesson! It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you.The inter-generational relationship between Ellie and her Grandma develops into something quite heart-warming too. The result of this constant upheaval is Ellie can’t make friends, isolating her and makes her sad, lonely and depressed. There are very few illustrations in this book which I didn't like but a varied range of vocabulary to boost the children's literacy development. She meets lots of imaginative animal characters (mice and spiders) who teach her how to be good friend towards others.

It portrays a theme across to children that it isn't worth being selfish as it can lead to consequences. Her work has appeared on screen, with Pig-Heart Boy, which was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal, being adapted into a BAFTA-award-winning TV serial. As she starts to make friends with the other animals in the house, the mice and the spiders, Ellie starts to learn how to be a good friend. Ellie doesn't want to as its just another move she can do without bit her mother insists as her father is going away to another job and she can’t look after her. When Amira's magical cat goes missing, she must embark on a perilous quest to save him, calm a mythical stormbird, and discover the truth about her past. Ellie doesn't take to her life as a cat but what she does find is Jolly isn't very well thought of by the other creatures in and around grandma’s house. Malorie Blackman’s excellent story entertains with humour, perfectly matched with Matt Robinson’s illustrations which superbly bring Ellie and her animal chums to life. With the help of a brave mouse and a resourceful spider, Ellie succeeds in finding the ring, defeating the machinations of Jolly the cat and convincing her Grandma that she has learned her lesson. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling.
