The train to collect him arrives at Weirwold’s Platform 1 travelling southbound, 7325 having been turned to face chimney first again. It is a shame that with all the other detail and thought that went into the making of it, no one thought to remove or disguise the UHF television aerials on their rooves ! When the Second World War is declared, Tom finds that his quiet life in the village of Little Weirwold is set to change when nine-year-old Willie Beech (Nick Robinson) is evacuated from London and billeted on him. While speaking with Zach, Willie learns about the concept of sex, something his mother raised him to believe was "something dirty" and unacceptable, and realises that his mother herself had been having a relationship with another man, which resulted in the birth of Trudy. John Thaw (Inspector Morse, Kavanagh QC) stars as the widowed and cantankerous Tom Oakley in this charming film adaptation of the prize-winning children's novel by Michelle Mogorian. Sammy leads Tom and Ralph to the cupboard under the stairs, which appears to be the source of a vile stench.
