About this deal

People may enjoy this for the slow tension, and I can understand that, but the ending was ridiculous, and the characters frustrating. As she enters the cathedral hall where all the parents and visitors are gathered, a shot suddenly rings out wounding Gemma. In addition, some of the narrative is before the accident, giving readers a greater understanding of Gemma's past, along with her parents too. But now, on a solo business trip, in a remote coastal hotel, he’s surprised to find Lisa in his bathroom. In a later scene, when a private investigator is shot in the chest, the shooter doesn’t have a silencer.

When the attacks on the house start everyone looks to Tarryn as they assume it to be the work of youngsters. Yet everybody has something to hide and, as more secrets come to light, you can’t help feeling you’ve been deceived somewhere along the line, and not necessarily by the character you thought. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. One of my favourite tropes in thrillers is when the mysterious perpetrator is one of the narrators and I was happy to see it in this book. Unable to identify the perpetrators, the Adlers are helpless as the assaults escalate into violence, and worse. She also constantly refers to "uniformed" officers when it is usually only uniform that is used in this context. I don’t mind admitting that the author had me totally fooled and I never once suspected the actual perpetrator, leaving me shook when we got to the big reveal.

There are some chilling coincidences, several hints of menace and real danger to add to the intensity. When Billy can’t find the informant, he wonders if Kate is secretly harboring her, since the two grew close during Kate's weeks undercover.

It follows the story of the Hartley family whose daughter has been shot during a university graduation ceremony. He has no idea how she got there but one chilling fact is clear: everything points to Dan having murdered her. This wasn't written as a thriller, more of a domestic suspense novel and I much prefer those to thrillers that never are that thrilling. We learn that Gemma has an ex-boyfriend who was very possessive and Ed had a troubled ex-wife that is stalking Rachel. The thing that got to me a bit is that this is another one of those books where lots of problems would have been solved if people just talked to each other- I couldn't figure out why Rachel and Ed felt the need to keep those particular secrets from each other. These incidents—especially the graduation shooting—are high profile, but a local detective inspector keeps the case, aided by the PI and a police detective sergeant. There she is given the chance to undo her regrets and try out each of the other lives she might have lived. Teresa Driscoll is a former BBC TV news presenter whose psychological thrillers have sold more than two million copies across the world. I liked both Gemma and Ed’s chapters but found Rachel’s chapters at the hospital a bit repetitive at times. Her first thriller I Am Watching You hit Kindle Number 1 in the UK, USA and Australia and has sold more than a million copies in English alone.

Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. But when a fling with the feisty beauty leads to an unexpected pregnancy, Aine runs from her sexy, stubborn boss. And yeah – I get that an affair with a married man is, in theory, dirty and seedy and underhand but I’ve always told myself it’s not like that with us because his marriage is over anyway.
