About this deal

Squeezing paint probably sounds like pinching pennies, but proper use of a painter’s tool for cleaning rollers can add up to significant cost savings. The reason we liked the Hyde so much is that it’s the only painter’s tool that has a second, smaller semi-circular cut-out to clean paint from a small-diameter roller. And every time I see someone digging around in their tool box for various items to pry, scrape, remove screws, open paint cans, etc I wonder what other things could be done with that time. One can only imagine what a guy like that would do with a 17-in-1 Painter’s Tool—maybe build a skyscraper or something. It is missing a number of the functions of our main pick, such as the small roller cut-out, the screwdrivers, and the bottle opener.

The nail set is really low quality and it actually bent the first time we tried to use it (none of the other painter’s tools come with a nail set). It has 19mm (¾") and 17mm (11/16") sockets to connect your whip hose to both your spray gun and your main airless hose. When I asked Clement about painter’s multitools, he said, “Almost any time you need to lever, wedge, scrape, gouge, cut, clean … I can go on … they’re a go-to. Hardly a project goes by—from installing a new door (pry-bar, door stop) to building a pergola (marking the ground) to what it’s actually made for: Painting a room—that we don’t use it. International products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from local products, including fit, age ratings, and language of product, labeling or instructions.

Like most similar tools, the Hyde can open a can of paint, scrape and apply putty, set a nailhead, open a bottle, pull a nail, and unscrew little things like electrical plates or light enclosures. The Hyde 6-in-1 doesn’t have the best features of our main pick, but it’s cheap, and you can still use it to open a can of paint, scrape, apply putty, and clean a large roller. The blade of the Hyde also has two wrench cutouts (¾-inch and 11/16-inch), which are sized to fit the connections on a paint sprayer. All manufacturer names, symbols, and descriptions, used in our images and text are used solely for identification purposes only.

In the interest of sustainability and reducing waste, here at Sprayman UK we do reuse our cardboard boxes. They’re not only perfect for tight spots, like behind the toilet tank, but I also used them to roll paint on window and door casings. and 11/16" wrenches you need to connect your ship hose to both your spray gun and your main airless hose. The company’s trademark high-quality, lightweight fantastic new design is known to do the likes of scraping flat surfaces and contours, spread putty, open out cracks, open bottles, pull nails and more 💯! It accomplishes all the more common multi-tool functions (scrape flat surfaces and contours, spread putty, open out cracks, open bottles, pull nails or pound them in) but also incorporates many new ones. I found that the wrench cutouts fit on some of the connections coming off my boiler and I’m sure they’d fit on other things in the house as well, but it’s a little awkward to use for any extended period of time. For prep, the edge of the tool can scrape old paint and apply putty; the pointed corner can gouge out a plaster or drywall crack for repair; the center hole can pry up a nail, and the little screwdriver can remove outlet covers and pendant lighting. This is the only painter’s multitool that we found that cleans two sizes of roller covers, and it can also open paint cans, scrape old plaster, and crack a beer, among many other tasks.

If you’re on a slightly tighter budget and willing to sacrifice a few of the more advanced features of the 17-in-1, we recommend the basic Hyde 06986 6-in-1 Multi-Tool. The reality is that the screwdriver bits are probably the least important functions that the tool has to offer, particularly if you already own the Megapro 13-in-1 screwdriver (which we highly recommend).

When she asked for a knife, you better esked back "what for" to save your knife from being used as a Phillips, pry bar, scraper, paint can opener. This rugged tool has an overmold handle with a thumb stop for safety and a blade that resists rusting.
