About this deal

When a real tiger turns up, can the persuasive and fearless little rodent manage to persuade the tiger that he is a mouse? Except that while you and I, and most of mouse’s friends can quite clearly see what type of animal stands in front of them, it would seem that mouse has other ideas. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). When Mouse leaves and gets a glimpse of himself in the water though, he realizes that he isn’t a tiger after all.

The second I heard the voice of the mouse in my head I thought – I want to illustrate this hilarious annoying rodent. and manages to convince a raccoon, a fox, a snake and a bird not only that this is true, but that they are not what they think they are. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). When the mouse boldly declares that he's a tiger, the other animals disagree, quickly pointing out the characteristics of a tiger that he is missing. My three and five year olds have been roaring with laughter at this - the first time we read it lead to three more consecutive readings and the laughter was still strong and contagious too!

Mouse isn't to be dissuaded, and his fresh perspective on his friends' classifications is as charming as his own strong sense of self. This book could be utilized in the classroom to talk about perspective and different observations that each animal makes about the mouse. We can see all of the animals individually and how they feel when the mouse says that he is a tiger. Children loved I Am A Tiger, a perfect book for reading aloud and sharing, with a really funny story about a mouse that also subtly raises the idea of labels and how they are applied. But when a real tiger turns up, can the persuasive little rodent manage to persuade the tiger that he is a mouse! The bold little mouse declares "I am a tiger" and manages to convince a raccoon, a fox, a snake and a bird not only that this is true, but that they are not what they think they are. As a series of woodland animals begin to argue with the mouse, its claims of tigerhood grow more and more outlandish (and more humorous). When a real tiger turns up, can the persuasive and fearless little rodent manage to persuade the tiger that he is a mouse! He proudly stands there, arms folded with a convincing air but when challenged by a ring-tailed lemur and a fox that tigers are bigger and more ferocious than him he realises that perhaps he is not a tiger after all. It felt like it was supposed to be funny, but the mouse was simply unlikeable, repeatedly making other animals feel bad about themselves and question their own sense of self to satisfy his delusion.
