About this deal

I try to remember what is in my control, and ultimately, the only thing I have true sway over is the quality of the written word. The actual marketing activity consisted of a handful of tweets, and Dive didn’t feature in newsletters or front-facing online activity. Then a briefcase is discovered in the same stretch of water where the dead girls were found, and suddenly the higher-ups at CID, including Naomi’s rival, Detective Chief Inspector Shannon Baines, start showing an interest. But suddenly it becomes personal and David is afraid the next body that is brought up could be his daughter. Now I’ve have had time to fully explore the source of these problems, it’s become clear that there was no intention to sell to the audience I hoped to reach.

I did speak to many commercial divers, and some of the old guard from the marine police consulted me informally. To put that into perspective, that’s the same as 13 months, or 416 days, or a serious tele binge, if you watched the entirety of Game of Thrones 145 times - all 70 hours and 14 minutes of it. Then they uncover something that will threaten to blow the case apart — if it doesn't get them killed first . As the second publication date slipped by with a severe communication breakdown, it became clear that my riders requested from the outset would not be delivered.Jane, our head of design, is responsible for the output of our award-winning books, ebooks and print-on-demand for Vertebrate Publishing.

I also wanted to tell a story that wasn’t strictly procedural or a mystery, but something else, something people haven’t read before. It struck me that divers are neglected characters in crime fiction, yet they have one of the diciest jobs in the Met. I also felt we were drifting further away from the audience I remain desperate to find a way to reach: silent men who needed to be seen in a safe way. I sought a clear sense of the cover design six months in advance, the better to begin the thornier work of mentioning the book in other professional matters. I’d disclosed in some detail what my preoccupations were when writing the book, and the demographic I hoped to reach.Fans of Robert Bryndza, Patricia Gibney, Angela Marsons, Biba Pearce and Line of Duty, prepare to dive into your new favourite read! Co-created with fellow BFI x BAFTA Crew member Isaac Tomiczek and produced by Danielle Goff, BLOCKBUSTER BOYS is a debut feature film about four kids lost in the woods surrounded by hidden dangers.

I didn’t have the skill or the talent to reverse engineer the novels I liked and answer the important questions like: How did they do that? It’s a glaring cliché that police officers possess a dark sense of humour, but in this case, it was definitely true. It’s one of the UK’s biggest crime scenes in that bodies surfacing is a daily occurrence, but it’s also used to traffic drugs and launder money, traffic people illegally and broker organs. Because there’s a lot yet to say about my relationship with the publisher and where the wheels came off. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. His plays have toured the UK and played at London venues including Almeida and Old Vic, and his TV credits include episodes of Holby City.

Joffe Books, Jon Barton and I would like to say a very big THANK YOU to everyone who helped with the launch of DIVE. I’ll drop the second part on Monday 9th January, with a deep dive (ha) exploring the querying process, editing the novel, and working with an editor. I was relieved to find a consensus: don’t back down – it’s your name on the book at the end of the day. He is convinced to listen to her when his own daughter goes missing… Dive is a murder mystery and detective novel set in London. The first book in your three-part debut crime series Dive will be published by Joffe Books on 14 January 2023.Twenty publishers turned ‘Dive’ down, and it went as far as acquisitions elsewhere before Joffe Books acquired it. A very different story that pulls the reader into the dark and murky world of Police Divers working in the Thames. Dive’ was a screenplay before it became a novel, and had to rely on the tropes of the crime thriller in a very specific context. In fact, it was refreshing to find myself feeling more educated, as the book literally dives into the murky depths of the hidden riverways under the City of London. We spoke to him about the real-life divers who inspired the story, how screenwriting compares to novel writing and his journey to publication.
