About this deal

Its original purpose was to regulate the flow of water in Bradshaw Brook, which provided power for the various mills that were situated in the valley below. As an alternative you can view the interactive Map of the Stage below oand/or download the GPX file for this Stage only by following the instructions below.

From here follow the path (black dotted line on the map not the green right of way which isn’t on the ground) to reach the road. The categories are fairly self explanatory - my reading of "Converted" is that it was a pillar that has been converted to a different type of survey monument, e. Some people set themselves the challenge of reaching a set number of trigs in a day, such as all the trigs in your local hills. The path reaches the flattening plateau and around the spot height marked on the map as 506m (but frankly, good luck to you if you can ascertain the spot on the landscape) it crosses a few river beds and then totally vanishes.

I've now added a list of all the trig points I've visited over the years, along with an interactive map of their locations. From here the route back to Marsden is to drop down to the Kirklees Way/Colne Valley Circular path next to Cupwith reservoir.Whether for the view or for the challenge, climbing the mountainous peaks in Lancashire is the best way to experience more of this beautiful region.

There are more than 6000 remaining trig pillars spread across the Britain landscape and most can be "bagged" by using a map and compass.

Horrobin Mill Bleachworks, one of the oldest bleachworks in the Bolton area, ceased trading in 1937 after 150 years activity. The Tower passed to his descendants, the Bland, Green and Frere families who leased it to a succession of tenant farmers. Parked on the road to the east above the small covered reservoir then easy walk across fields to bag the trig on the summit. Beware the electric fences they are live i slipped near the bridge right at the end near the car i grabbed the fence to steady myself and got a right belt!
