Little Darlings is her first novel, and has been optioned for screen by Free Range Films, the team behind the adaptation of My Cousin Rachel. Lauren Tranter and her husband have just welcomed the arrival of children – twin boys, who they decide to name Riley and Morgan. I obviously had empathy for Lauren when it came to her husband and the fear she would have felt over losing her babies, but you can have sympathy for a situation even if you don’t like the person. When the two girls meet in unlikely circumstances, they are surprised to find in each other something they’ve been missing all their lives .
As the novel progresses and more exciting events occur, we also obtain the POV of Detective Sergeant Joanna Harper who takes an unexpected interest in the potential abduction of her twins that Lauren initially reports to the police. When Destiny and her mum attend Danny’s film premiere, Destiny’s secret painfully unfolds – and the step-sisters tentatively discover a genuine friendship. It is all about living to your own wits the kids understand freindship more and the parents well they just ARGUE!
My Favourite part of the book is were destiny and mum spend ages lokking for danny kilman so destiny can meet her father. I really felt for Lauren; the isolation, how tired she was and how she struggled to adjust to life with two new-born babies to look after. I was very impressed by how this novel captures the struggles of early motherhood – from the simple things of trying to pack a nappy bag and get babies ready to go for a walk to the massive, massive psychological change you go through when you become a mother. The letters between Sunset and Destiny were a fun way of having them interact and I enjoyed seeing how their friendship developed.
Little darlings is definitely one of my favourite books the only thing I would change about it was the way it went like it was all about destiny in the first chapter and all about sunset in the second and then all about destiny in the third chapter and about sunset in the fourth it kinda confused me at the start but now it's definitely one of my favourites! When DS Joanna Harper picks up the list of overnight incidents that have been reported, a report of an attempted abduction catches her eye. Her Mum is a very famous model, and her Dad is an incredible singer, who is extremely famous world wide. More on the reality side, it's a bit hard to believe that a celebrity and a local are related to each other.Personally, I found Sunset a bit more interesting to read about, but I think this is because she was unique to JW’s characters, and Destiny wasn’t.
The mounting evidence of ever more and ever worse skulduggery will pull Tempe deeper and deeper down what even she sees as a rabbit hole before she confronts a ringleader implicated in “Drugs. As a child, I was always fascinated by fairy tales and by that I don’t mean the Disney-ish stories that some kids are spoon fed, but the real folkloric tales, as they are told from generation to generation, from mouth to mouth so to say. Compulsive, creepy, and inspired by some of our darkest fairy tales, Little Darlings will have you checking—and rechecking—your own little ones.
Sunset a Destiny sa spolu stretnú na premiére filmu Milky Stars, kde chce Destinina mama Destiny predstaviť Dannymu Kilmanovi. At just 11 years old she feels more like the parent and has to plead with her mother, Kate, to seek help for her deteriorating condition. Once she leaves hospital, her fears don’t dissipate and things really ramp up when her babies are abducted. This novel is a dark fantasy/psychological thriller and won the 2019 Dragon Award for Best Horror Novel. It's much more an exploration of mental health trauma and postpartum struggles, which it does extremely well.
